Eggs I get what you are saying but football has changed, almost unrecognizably, from the 80s. Also the fact you need to go back that far for an example...

...it was an Everton example. I’m sure there are plenty more. All i’m saying is I don’t know how effective Iwobi might be, but Brands/Silva have obviously identified him as somebody they want.

There was a report yesterday that suggested we wanted Iwobi and Zaha, so this lad might not be 2nd choice.

Liverpool got Milner and Oxlade Chamberlain from teams above that supposedly didn’t want them. Both have done well for them. We did the same with Barry. Leicester turned a few United rejects into title winners. Sometimes a player just doesn’t shine in one place but fits perfectly in another. Pienaar struggled at Dortmund and Spurs yet lit up with us.

The fact that Iwobi might start the season on our bench shows how far we’ve come in a year. He would have walked into our first team at any point under Martinez or Koeman.

Per the guy who Tweeted this:

Iwobi is a ball progressive machine, with fantastic spatial awareness and ball reception. Physical qualities, and underrated creative ability. A player who can progress the ball consistently in the final 3rd and find players inside the box......Volume is all he is lacking

Who knows
Ha ha. Arsenal fans are no different to us. Reading that twitter feed was just like reading a GOT thread for one of our youngsters.

Personally I think he's looked dangerous whenever he's played against us. Quick and tricky. Defenders hate going up against players that run with the ball.

I saw a couple of the Nigerian games in the recent AFCON and he operated as a playmaker for them, and there's actually a lot more to his game than you realise when he's stuck out on the wing.

He's a big step down from Zaha, but he has youth on his side and would expect to improve. His stats are better than Zaha's were at the same age. Is he worth £35m? I guess time will tell. But he was a regular for Arsenal last season and his goal and assist stats per minute are very reasonable for his age.

He's better than our back up wide men, including Walcott IMO, and away from home against the top teams his pace and ability to run with the ball would make us dangerous on the counter. His ability to play in the centre will also make him an alternative should Siggy be having an off game which we know he has from time to time.

He definitely improves our squad and I'm happy we brought him in.

I think many will prefer to spend it on someone better in the first place. Iwobi is able to provide decent alternative but I think people are hoping for something more than decent at this point. Especially so when compared to Zaha, Neres, Lozano. I can understand the disappointment, especially at 35m?

...possibly, but it sounds like Iwobi wasn’t bought instead of Zaha, we wanted both.

I really don’t have an opinion on him, except Brands clearly identified him as a player he wanted.
