2019/20 Alex Iwobi

Iwobi has done excellent last two games, he picked up an injury just before Ancelotti came in but he was excellent for Dunc especially against Chelsea at home.

I think he gets too much negativity this season.

He has played all over the midfield and he would benefit from a set position which would provide consistency.

I honestly think its because of the way he moves, he just looks so clumsy. So even when he does something great it just looks off.

Id keep him on the right till the end of the season.

Interesting what some peoples perception of excellent is.
He kept the ball ticking over and did a job. Like the whole team.
Nobody was "excellent" against norwich.
It was a job done back home with 3 points.

Agenda is the name of the game. I want to see more from him. If he comes good, that means we didn’t waste money. Also think he needs to get into the habit of attacking crosses because he seems quite capable in the air when he has bothered. Just needs to find himself central more often and away from the wing.

Had a good beginning to his time here, goal against Wolves and in the cup. Had a MOTM display against West Ham when playing at #10, was forced out wide the following game against Brighton after Bernard went off 20 mins in. That defeat began another slump for us so hard to judge him in that time, only Richarlison looked any good in that time. Was brilliant for us against Chelsea under Dunc but then struggled with injury since.

He's a decent player lads, maybe not a player who is gonna fire us into top 4 but a good squad option who is young, seems to have the right attitude and will improve. Persist with him as much as possible for the remainder of the seasons's, he is nowhere near the list of players we should look to move on.

If we are playing 4-4-2 the amount of times he should be in a position to attack a cross should be relatively low.

If you put him on one side of the 4-4-2 to be more of a midfielder and pair him with a winger on the other side who is a pure attacker who can get goals it could work very well. But aside from that I agree, we need others to be the key players and for him to just do his job around that.

Yeah agreed in general one out and out winger and one wide midfielder gives the side better balance despite the asymmetry, think Pienaar on the left, Mirallas on the right that worked well under Moyes and Martinez.

With grafters like DCL and Richarlison up top, having an attacker on one wing makes it easy for us to switch to a 433/451 if say Richarlison pulls out wide/drops in. Think that's very mcuh Carlo's plan, while we're well drilled off the ball we look much more flexible on the ball under him.

No reason he can’t target set pieces, corners or make the occasional back post run.

Set pieces sure, but that isn't what I thought you meant originally, and tbf we have the CBs, Dom and Richarlison who will all be targets before him in those situations.

Yes the occasional back post run, but the occasional back post run is the same as me saying the amount of times he will be in positions to attack crosses is low.

It depends on who is furthest forward, but if Dom or Richy are flicking on and he is one of the furthest forward he should join while one of them hold. In situations like those the positions are interchangeable but Iwobi never really advances in positions like that.

He did have that back post run against Liverpool but we need to see more of that.
