He still had many chances to do what he did against Fulham - attack the defenders when running with the ball or one on one with his marker - but every time without fail he cut inside, played an easy inside pass or passed the responsibility to do something positive to somebody else instead. No idea why. Something is wrong in his brain.

He was widely praised last week, why couldn't he at least try to take on a player this week? Yes he wasn't helped by the manager, but it's his choice what to do with the ball when we're attacking and it's in his possession.
Because he is right footed last week he just drove on and whipped it in when he plays on the left he cuts in on his right

I think it might be so simple as everyone isn't at their best every week. He wasn't bad either just nothing quite came off. The same happened with Richarlison. But the stuff he's expected to do weekly like carrying the ball and linking up he still did so I'm confused as to why he's getting so much abuse in here. Of course he wasn't good defensively he's not a fullback.

He played one lovely pass through to Doucoure who should have been able to control it through on goal.

He was badly exposed in defence but not too bad in possession. The position just didn't work for the team.

O don't get me wrong Richarlison was abysmal tonight. It's time for us to plan for once he's left us, let's not get caught cold in the summer when he suddenly requests a move.

I just think it would be beneficial to give Iwobi some benefit of the doubt here. He is a bit up and down but he wasn't even that far down today coming off of a week where he was very up and we've still got people going on about how awful he is.

It'll be interesting because I think Richarlison is really good and at the same time I'm not sure as a wide player he has the skills to make the step up necessarily. He's a bit too lose with the ball and creatively he has to be up for it all the time in a side better than ours. He's a bit of a weird player.

On the one hand, I think it was a dumb managerial decision to play him behind Richarlison when both want to cut inside with the ball, leaving us with zero width for James to switch the play.

And on the other, did Iwobi not think just once that him making an overlapping run might create space for others? Like, nobody expects him to morph into Digne, whipping in balls with his left foot, but make a selfless run that pulls a defender with you for the front three to exploit.

I suspect the threat Leeds posed down their right in the first half probably had him scared to make too many forward runs and leave the defence exposed.

Playing wing backs who offer no width was a bit crazy mind.

Still thought it was bonkers putting him at LWB.

At RWB at least he's bringing it forward on his natural foot and can put balls into the box.. but putting him on the left it was obvious that he was always going to want to cut inside and it was incredibly counter productive considering that's the job that Richarlison already does in front of him. He wasn't even given the chance to overlap either.. but at least Nkounkou would've been the better pick for that considering he's a natural left-footer anyway?

Even if Ancelotti did it for the sake of wanting more 'experience' on the pitch and a bit more of a 'defensive presence' then hasn't Iwobi himself only just admitted recently that he can't really defend? I'm a bit lost with it all.

Like some other players, he’s not being helped by Carlo this season. He’s played, left of a front three, right of a front three, RWB, LWB and in different formations with different personnel around him. He must be confused as hell.

In terms of playing him as a wing back, left or right - he’ll do well when we have most of the ball and the onus is on us to attack. So against Fulham first half it worked well as it played to his strength, he was picking the ball up with space in front of him and he’s good at advancing the ball. Didn’t have to do too much defensively 2nd half was more of a problem. If we play the same formation against Burnley this weekend, i’d expect he’ll be an asset as they’ll let us have most of the ball and we’ll have to break them down. Against teams where we aren’t controlling possession and it’s more in the balance playing him at wing back is a liability as he doesn’t know where to stand positionally and isn’t switched on to runners, movement etc. that’s not his fault, it’s not his game and asking him to do it is, for me, really poor management.

Hope this 3 at the back experiment gets put in the bin personally and only used for very specific opposition i.e. Burnley this week could work.

He shouldn't be played on the left again, at least in a wing-back capacity.

For wing-backs you need players playing on the side of their natural foot. Simple as that.
