2020/21 Alex Iwobi

He has been fit enough to play in the last 2-3 games. I'm not that bothered about that side, in all honesty, in terms of the last few games, as Iwobi has done okay when played there and we have other options (Godfrey/Holgate).

But on the other side we have no options and there is no excuse for Ancelotti not to play Nkounkou.

You say that he sees Delph as back-up, but i don't think that's the case either. Nkounkou played in the EFL Cup games and v Newcastle. Granted Delph coming back to fitness (lol) in the early part of the season. He also played Iwobi at LWB last week, rather than Delph.

He basically is going to a lot of daft lengths not to play Nkounkou, and there is one reason for that and that is Nkounkou's age.

Well, I'm sorry Carlo, but that doesn't cut it, because if you weren't happy with a 19/20 yr old as back-up to Digne (an integral part of how we play in terms of an attacking left-footer to add balance and width and who can get up and down all day), then we should have got somebody else in.

Has Kenny been fit? I mean he might be back in training but not sure he's matched fit.

Asfo Nkounkou, he got a go in the league cup, but I don't think that makes himthe back up in Carlo's mind. As we know, Delph wasn't fully fit. I mean I think it's wrong he's not the back up, but I don't think he is.

I think we are arguing slightly different points really mate. You are rightly pointing out the short sightedness of his approach, which I accept, but I'm just pointing out that in Carlo's head, his top 4 full backs are now injured, which is obviously not ideal.

According to who?
Well, he’s been in full training since the start of the last international break and Carlo said at the time Kenny was back. He’s been in all the photos of training and videos of training over the last month and Carlo hasn’t listed him as injured in his pre match press conferences.

Didn’t even think it was up for debate that he’s fit. According to who is he injured?

You can't get match fit without playing matches. Carlo has said a few times he's not 100% but would be fit to play. Again though, RB not my main concern (at least not from the last few games).

If your theory on Nkounkou is true, it paints an even worse picture. Delph can't run at the best of times and can manage one or two games at a time before injury. A back-up needs to be reliable and offer most of what the first-choice can - if not the quality in terms of overall play, at least similar attributes. Delph does none of that, other than he's left-footed. He can't cross, can't run and is never fit.

If the club thought Delph was back-up over Nkounkou then it's even more of a concern.

There's no excuse for it.

He himself said 'good to be back' on socials or something. So the assumption was he was injured

Ah ok, I hadn't seen him say Kenny was fit, only that he was working to fitness. If he's fit it's a surrise he's not in the match day 18.

We can have our views on Nknounkou V Delph, but the manager clearly sees Delph as his 1st backup. Losing 3-4 of your first choice fullbacks is a problem.

Fair enough mate. I had assumed he wasn't fully fit, but I could well be wrong!

You say that mate but is there any evidence he does?

Delph didn't play at the start v Leeds, Carlo went with Iwobi (an average attacking midfielder) at LWB over Delph. Surely he isn't the '1st back-up' in that case?

I suspect he wasn't convined Delph was 100% fit. Lets put it this way, he seems to view Delph as a backup option over Nkounkou. Injuries have hurt us this season.
