With the "Project 17" stuff, it's clear he's just using this contract to finance his lifestyle / influencer stuff. Plenty "work to live" in every industry but in professional sport it's a lethal attitude. He'll never improve, he's got nothing to strive for, and he probably has to check every now and again who he actually plays for.

We'll lose the lot on him - wages and transfer fees.

We can't, he's on 100k a week here, possibly 120k.
