….yep. The difficulty in our position is we can’t really afford to cash in our better players. Iwobi is talented but I’ll always doubt his application, in normal circumstances I’d sell if we could make a profit but we are in a perilous state.

The other aspect we don’t know is if he wants to run down his contract. That wouldn’t surprise me in the least & I wouldn’t blame him if he did.

Retaining a player we paid 34m for will be a business decision and not something Frank Lampard will have much say on.
£28m plus add ons, which if they’re performance linked I’d be amazed if we had to pay a penny more. Nearest one I could see we might hit is if we owe them more if he signs a new contract, but that won’t be worth £6m extra.

If we paid 28 by are standards of the last 5 or 6 years it was a real good deal.

Arsenal turned down 30m, we defo paid more than that.

If they have any sense, which im giving them, most add ons would have been appearance related.

I've been a critic in the past but very pleased to be proven wrong to some degree this last few months.

Still, I would say he is playing like you would expect for his 70k a week now having not done before. Not playing beyond this to earn a pay rise to 100k if that's true.

Offer to renew at 75k. He won't get more than that elsewhere even as a free agent. Still a healthy wage for a good midtable player.

Yeah but don't forget this deal with a very odd one, lots of money got moved around that day by Arsenal, Moshiri and several of his agent mates.

Thing is whatever we paid he has done very well for us and fully deserves a glorious new contract.
By making him a high earner will encourage other players to work hard.

Of which none can score the goals he got.But the crucial ones.

Frank thinks the squad is better. That belief alone will get him the sack if we are rock bottom on the 4th Jan.

Its a results business in the end.

I would still sell him to Forest in Jan.

He did ok for like 4months, last few games hes gone back to being garbo.

Get him gone.

Relegation, rock bottom lad very soon.

Deluded, how does any of our lot think they deserve pay rises being bottom.

Bonkers!!

£100k per week x 4 years = £21m. He will have zero problem picking that up as a free agent. We paid £20m just to sign McNeil.
Even £40k pw wages turns that into a £30m+ outlay.

But that’s it, you have to create a scenario where he is picked up for free to envisage some other club being daft enough to offer him 100k, or compare him to our dreadful purchase of McNeil to make you feel better about him.

He’s definitely picked up recently, and he’s got a good assist record so far this season, but when you compare him as a midfielder in the Premier League he’s far from top drawer.

He wouldn’t be a pick in most Everton sides throughout the last 20 years. I’m not sure he’d even make the bench if you had all the players from the last 20 years to choose from.
