I think things can be true at the same time. For me, Iwobi was undoubtedly one of our best players last season and has been consistently since the start of 2022. Now, did we overpay for him? Yes. Does he not score enough? Yes. Do we need better quality in the starting 11 if we are gonna push for Europe? Yes.

But what's also true is right now we are relegation candidate level team and he is one of our only creative outlets, is consistently fit, will play wherever the manager tells him and works hard for the team in both attack and defense.

Iwobi is not a problem for Everton at the moment. I think even if we are to kick on up the table, he'd be a good squad player.

As much as Carlo didn’t believe it, his best use is in the middle. His numbers are lower because both FL and Dyche played him out side to cover for the deficiencies of our fullbacks and wingers. I’m not saying he’s de Bruyne but put him at 10 and he’s got a handful more goals and assists. To his credit he hadn’t complained.

Left mid, left of a midfield 3 or as a 10.

It’s interesting that his stats are comparable with midfielders playing more centrally & without his defensive responsibilities.

He was a ,lot more inexperienced at Arsenal also used as a winger which he is not .....
At Arsenal where he was the playing with better players and had possession higher up the pitch. He also got a lot of games against diddy teams in the league cup or europa league group stages. The one season he got a lot of starts in the league under Emery was possibly their worst ever team in the premier league era. Remember them coming to Goodisom that season and thinking it was the first time I’d seen an Arsenal team where I didn’t feel like they had a goal threat and he was miles off their standard.

No surprise they let him go. So average, doesn’t have the killer instinct in and around the box.

He has covered many positions for us MOTM on many occasions playing Central midfield...

As always don't play him in and around the box

He's one of our only technical players. And the rest of our midfield has virtually zero technical ability combined

For that reason alone, we need to keep him. Sure I'd love someone younger, newer, cheaper, but that doesn't exist in the real world. We have no money. Iwobi is quite literally one of the least of our problems, given our current squad

Hoping we move away from Iwobi on the right:

Pickford
Patterson Tarkowski New CB New LB
Gueye/Onana/Garner
Doucoure---------Iwobi
New RW---------------------------McNeil
New CF/DC-L

I wonder what is happening with the contract negotiations ?
Earlier this year we were told talks were ongoing with Pickford and Iwobi and the feeling was that talks would be postponed until the relegation issue was decided.
Pickford has signed a contract , I think Iwobi needs to do the same or may well be sold.
