Everton have accelerated Carlo Ancelotti’s recruitment drive by agreeing a deal in the region of £25 million for the Napoli midfielder Allan.
The transfer will reunite Ancelotti with the 29-year-old Brazilian, with whom he worked for 18 months in Naples and who had been his prime target as he looks to put his own stamp on the Merseyside club.

Ancelotti remains keen on a deal for Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez, another player he has worked with previously in his managerial career. Discussions continue, although there is a need for Everton to trim back their squad to raise funds.

Allan has been earmarked to add energy and aggression to Everton’s previously underwhelming midfield and is now due to have a medical. The fee to the Italian club will be topped up by bonuses depending on his progress.
Meanwhile, Michael Keane is ready to commit his long-term future to Everton by agreeing a new five-year contract.

The deal for the defender comes in a week in which he has been recalled to the England squad and ensures what he hopes will be the best years of his career will be played out at Goodison Park.
Keane, 27, had two years remaining on his existing terms and has endured difficult periods for Everton since signing from Burnley for an initial fee of £25 million in 2017.

However, he played every minute for manager Ancelotti in Everton’s nine games under Project Restart and will expect to start the new campaign.
He will report to St George’s Park tomorrow before the Nations League ties with Iceland and Denmark, with the absence of Harry Maguire from the squad boosting his hopes of making his first appearance since last October’s defeat by Czech Republic.
