2021/22 Allan

Lampard said in his interview to Amazon after the game that it won't be overturned. He's just being realistic as a successful appeal would have the knock on effect of deeming VAR's intervention incorrect, and there's no way they're going to admit they've got it wrong twice in a matter of weeks for the same club whilst using a system that is supposed to be fool-proof.

In an alternative football reality they perhaps would have been justified in sending Allan to a sin bin for five minutes, but a straight red warranting a three match ban is just scandalously unfair. Some of the brutal challenges that VAR have had a look at and deemed them not red-worthy have been shocking to say the least, so the fact that a professional foul is the one they go the extra mile for is just ridiculous.

Never, ever a red card and it just shows how fundamentally flawed VAR is.

I could be mistaken but I’m sure Leeds had one very similar at the weekend which was only a yellow.

I think you’ve got to have a stance that unless it’s 100% obvious, you’ve got to side with the perpetrator. If there’s any doubt, it can’t be overturned.

The issue with VAR decisions like that is that the ref was under pressure to send off right away even before he saw the evidence.

When he got to the screen it was already showing a still portraying the tackle in the worst possible light, not the whole thing. A kangaroo court basically.

VAR is supposed to make the decision process more consistent, less subjective and fairer. It doesn’t do any of those things, in fact it makes it worse.

What it does do is ‘entertain’ the neutrals and create ‘narratives’, even in boring matches. And that’s the real goal of VAR.

insanity if its three matches

it was never a straight red.

honestly though - most straight reds are two matches anyways.

they have tried to do us in consecutive games now with JJK and Allan. and the handball penalty. its a disgrace. i usually let things go, but its really suscipcious, because they are SO SOFT. they're doing us in.

It will be 3 matches if it's not overturned. Straight red for dangerous play always is.

Hahah what a user name.

only positive is he is back for Man Utd home when VDB isn't eligble.
we will struggle though for the weekend with both VDB and Allan out. Gomes it is then :(

This was precisely my issue, the VAR official has stuck up the worst looking single frame, but you could do that for so many incidents and get whatever decision you want. Attwell just wanted the red.

Gordon's penalty appeal minutes later wasn't a pen, but you could select a still image that would make it look like it absolutely was, if penalty was the decision you wanted. You've got to show the ref the whole incident, in real time, and let them decide if you want a fair decision.

there are different types of reds even though they are all 3 matches.

Im just saying that many reds could be 2 weeks and dangerous plays rightfully 3 weeks.

Allan tapped saint maximum because he went to foul the man but he wasn't going to hurt him. i wouldn't say it was a 'dangerous play' unless you want to interpret it as Allan leaving the ground and possible scissor action right at the end.

anything in slow motion always looks worse, but i'll argue here the ref got it clearly wrong, because he's watching the same footage everyone is watching, and even Alan Shearer said its not a red card.

the ref got allan on a technicality probably both feet off the ground, but its not dangerous.

No, what I'm saying is the VAR checked for "serious foul play" which = a 3 match ban in the PL rules.
