2021/22 Allan

I could see the reasons why
We were so weak in the area and need some energy and aggression. And didn’t have huge sums to play with .Unfortunately think Allan was 2/3yrs to late to the prem. but he was/is a good player, such a shame we haven’t seen him with a proper holding player.

I said Doucoure was a 2/3yr stop gap player and of course got laughed at ?. But there’s no way he’s is a regular under Frank moving forward. It’s a tricky situation as he only has a year left, but we shouldn’t really be giving him a new deal he will be 30 at the start of next season, maybe we keep and let him leave next summer of a free. I’d sell if we hit a decent offer.
I was sceptical at the time. I thought we needed someone who could specialise in sitting in front of the back four and Allan was not known for doing that at Napoli. In fact, he was known for doing the opposite and even breaking forwards into the opposition's box when he could. He has a huge lack of positional discipline which has really impacted in how our defence and midfield have failed to form a cohesive unit in the time he's been here.

And yes Doucoure was a short term fix as well. Quite preposterous considering he was brought in by Marcel Brands who should have been trying to bring in younger players. Why that charlatan is still defended in some quarters on here I'll never know.

Allan was always going to be a disaster once Ancelotti left; ultimately ending the short term approach we’d stupidly tried.

Allan at his age and on such a short contract, at the price we paid is a disaster. Still maintain Allan is a cracking footballer, but you can’t do it in your own.

Benitez persistence and then Lampard following in playing him in a midfield 2, basically eliminates his qualities.

He’ll be another who leaves for nothing if we don’t part this summer, so I’ll happily let him go. Not his fault we’re a circus.

Very rarely been played according to his strengths, i.e. breaking down opposition possession and releasing to a better passer. He's had to cover Doucoure far too often, cover for defensive mistakes almost every week.
He came here and reminded me of Peter Reid. Then Everton got a true grip. Those who just talk about mobility and his age are choosing to ignore the strengths.
