2021/22 Allan

Short memories. He's often by far our best midfielder. Got others to replace before him.
Jonjoe Kenny's often our best full back but it doesn't mean we should keep hold of him. Allan has been a mainstay of a midfield that has been second best in about 95% of the games we've played since he joined. He might not be the biggest cause of that, but he's not been an effective solution either.

But do you replace Kenny before you replace the other full-backs if he's the best of them?

Will be into the last year of his contract. We should obviously be selling for whatever we can get. He's extremely inconsistent and overrated by our fans, and we have to stop allowing players to run down their contracts and leave on free transfers.

I think this is true more than anything else - correct me if I'm wrong but for the fee he should command he'll probably show up as a rare player trading profit based on a written down value of the player over the length of his contract? £22m iirc on a three year deal, if I understand correctly anything over £8m will be considered profit on the books.

This is true but got to be realistic about who we can actually feasibly sell - many prime candidates for 'replacement' (say, Andre Gomes?) in his position will have diddly squat interest in them in the summer. See also a good third of the squad

I don't think it matters. Get rid of the players who aren't cutting it and replace them with ones who will be an improvement. Some of the biggest culprits won't have takers so you have to move further down the list. Allan hasn't been very good for us so I have no issue with him moving on. I'd rather we got £10m for Gomes but you take what you can get in this situation.

This. If we could sell all of the wasters as easy as that then we would’ve done it years ago.

Allan is not the player we thought we were getting. Given his age it's not going to get any better either. If he wants out, brilliant. Just hope he takes a few others with him.

Think it’s a shame we didn’t maybe get a defensive midfielder and seen the best of him. But at 31 with a year left I’d take the money, if it’s worth it. No point keeping Gomes( if we can’t shift him) and selling Allan if it’s not worth it.

At the age we signed him I’m not sure we’d have seen the best of him regardless of the set up to be honest.

I can imagine that he was very good if he used to have a bit more pace but since we got him his mobility affects his ability to hare around the pitch, and as far as I can tell that’s his biggest attribute. He’s just a bit of a nothing player now really, not mobile or disciplined enough to be a good defensive midfielder and not enough quality on the ball to be a good attacking one. I’m not saying he’s useless, he does have quality, but I’m not sure he was cut out for moving to the PL at the stage he did.

I think his card was marked when Uncle 'Arry referred to him as a 'little boy with no legs' on the radio.

Gone in the summer.
