Thats one of the first times he really hasnt been protected by Gueye and he played the role really well. I think it helped to have a high motor player in Garner next to him, but based on that performance you would have to be excited about a midfield that Onana and Garner anchor.
and with McNeill and Harrison on either side of them two, opposition midfields know they're not gonna get a moment's rest

Unless Dyche goes crazy and plays two up top we have to be lining up with Onana 6 Garner 8 and Doucoure 10 against Luton.

Onana and Garner covered more ground than I expected, the mad press was a happy surprise, but what I wasn’t surprised by was crunching tackles, interceptions and a bit of class on the ball, brilliant stuff!

If Onana learns to shoot he’ll be dominating games the way Yaya Toure used to back in the day. Until then though, I’m more than happy for him to dominate in a more Gareth Barry style and that is a big compliment from me.

He will shine if we replace Gana with Garner as he is too similar to Garna , but much better....

Being able to pass and move and be good on the ball is almost impossible when the other two players in cm can’t be trusted with the ball or don’t move into space.

Having garner in there means he can make runs and play passes under pressure without the fear of gana and doucs mis controlling the ball and leaving the team exposed.

It’s only one game but I feel that garner being played close to him will enable onnana to show what he is capable of

Love the way both Garner and Onana look to turn and get past there marker. Makes a big difference in the middle if you can get behind your opposite number rather than just passing sideways and backwards.

Breaking the oppositions line in midfield causes so many problems as the defence either have to drop back and give you space to run into, or have to come and meet you which in turn creates space for DCL etc to exploit.

I know this because I have watched teams do it to us 5/6 times a game for the past 2 seasons lol.

We finally get to see Onana and Garner together in the centre and look what we get, Onana looking comfortable in a position he understands, whilst playing next to a player with the quality he understands....

Other then playing Garner in the centre, the biggest benefit to Onana's game is not having Gana on the pitch. I don't think Onana understands his role properly when playing alongside Gana.

Please understand what you saw tonight Dyche 🙏

His shot in the 2nd half didn’t miss by much, if that had been a foot lower it would have been an absolute corker.
He certainly seems to have shooting from range in his locker if that was anything to go by, so hopefully he’ll try a few more. Plenty of pace and power on it.
