American Food

Stir into a load of piping hot mashed potatoes a heaping helping of grated smoked Gruyere...my goodness. I'd imagine the gravy only adding to the flavor bomb.
Careful on the Gruyere, while it's delicious, could be somewhat out of place next to a chicken fried steak....I think you could go garlic mashed and still maintain the appropriate level of "American food" to stay in this thread....

BTW, what are people's mashed potato preference?

Creamy or lumpy?
Peeled potatoes or skins are good for you
Garlic or plain?

Me: lumpy with skins and garlic.

Also: PINEAPPLE ON PIZZA FOREVER!

Cheesy mashed taters for me in the creamy state. No idea about the chemistry involved, but most cheeses combine with creamy taters in a perfect state.

Gravy is the obvious and usual combination.

I think chemically the fat from gravy being replaced by a fatty cheese is why it works so well.

Can eat mashed any way but prefer potatoes in general as baby type (red, yukon gold), sliced and roasted/sauteed with butter and rosemary and garlic and and and...

I've been in Chicago for the last week and been really enjoying the food here. I generally eat a lot but I had a grilled cheese sandwich with fries the other day and didn't need to eat again for about 6 hours. It must have been about 1500 calories but it was incredible. We also found really good Polish and Greek restaurants. The choice here is brilliant.

One thing I noticed though is groceries are very expensive. It's almost cheaper just to eat out all the time.

The people are so nice here too. It makes me wonder why the hell I'm still in London with all the miserable people who pretend it's great.
