I don't get the impression America majors on salads, right?

Some of the stuff my mate in Texas sends me shots off make my arteries clang just looking.
It's so hard to find a good salad, unless you mean some of the things that are called "salad" in the South, all of which should be eaten but may not be healthy. I'll defer to @RAFUH or @mezzrow here but I'll tempt you with a fruit salad. When the lovely Mrs Nigh was in grad school in Florida with Yanks they wouldn't touch the stuff, but if you had a Southern grandma you ate this at least quarterly. If it's served without mayo it's not real.

Oh yes. Cool Whip flew in my family's kitchen like mortar in a brick wall. They are all variations of "ambrosia" which is a classical term and must contain the little orange wedges, coconut, and a variety of mixed fruits, with the accompanying heavy syrup. Mayo and nuts may also be involved.

This qualifies in these parts as health food, which it is, compared to a Hardee's belt buster or that awesome birria taco plate I just demolished about two hours ago.
