American looking for Premier League team to support

I like this thread.

The US is picking up football really quick and I thin that at some point they will win a major tournament. I am a casual frequenter of other sites and it is amazing how much football chat is creeping in from the US

We have loads of US guys on here and they are sound even @TX Bill who is a moderator.

@PotentialFan i wouldn't worry too much. Don't choose a team, hang around in here and join in some of the debate and the banter. We are a down to earth bunch who enjoy a laugh. You will drift into it, Everton will choose you.

not sure why this has gone on 9 pages. started following before finding this site, but about an hour here had me fully convinced the calling was correct.

but toss another little bit on why this club is ace. things like Blue Crimbo. Everton in the Community. The way Wee was treated. Martinez sitting down with reps from this site, the Followtonians, and other fan sites and answering EVERY question posed for over 90 minutes... not a timed event, just kept going until the event ran it's course.

Shows it's more than a club. It is an organization that embraces the people. The Peoples Club isn't just a slogan.

I got a facebook invite/request from the Chelsea supporters organization. They seem to have branches throughout the US with viewing parties. Sounds like it could be fun from a social experience perspective.

What's the scoop on Chelsea?

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response and for understanding the process I'm in!

England nailed the arm-folding except for maybe the last guy. They seem to have coordinated ahead of time to all look up and not smile.

Thank you for your helpful response!

Hmm, can you fill me in?
If you enjoy going to the local depot and watching buses park then you will probably enjoy Chelsea's style of play. Also, if you liked Fidel Castro and Pol Pot, then you will probably like their manager Jose Mourinho.

I think one of the biggest cons of becoming an Everton fan is that you will be on a list that also contains Bungle. Now I haven't been posting here too long, and I don't really know Bungle, but nothing has been done by any of the regular posters or mods, least of all Bungle himself, to convince me that he's not some sort of roving sexual deviant. From this information, we can derive this Venn diagram:

Notice how close you yourself will come to being a sex fiend. Uncomfortably close, I think you'll agree. And now I hope you have all the information you need.

Erm, I appreciate that it's a bit of an ongoing joke amongst a few people but to be fair this is a bit out of order. I've reported the post but would rather tell you it was me than be a bit of a snide.

I also notice a moderator 'liked' the post, assumed they would know when a joke has been taken a little bit to far but clearly that's not the case. Anyway, no hard feelings mate, I don't mind the occasional mocking of my supposed deviant nature but there is a limit. LOL

My apologies, probably should have known better. I deleted it there anyway.

Haha I was only p!ssing about mate, much worse has been said about me on here and it was a much more original effort than most. Always check for white text.

Mocking me makes me feel accepted, please don't stop.

Hahaha. Oh well, it's gone now anyway, but it's in a better place now. Inside your quote bubble.

I think that its hard to pick a team when most of the reasons you are stating are off the pitch things. I understand that you want to do right from a moral perspective or what not, but it is about play. Its about what suits your eye and draws you in. Everton have done that to every single person in this place. The advice to watch a bunch of teams play for a while and pick what is best for you is sound. There will always be a team that draws you in. In my opinion it is impossible to just say " I've never watched these teams play, but I choose this one" you may find out by the 5th match that you hate their style. So watch as many matches as you can and pick what suits you the best. Good luck. NSNO

I would appreciate it if you correct any inaccuracies, make a case for/against certain teams, and let me know anything else that might help me make a decision.

Seems this is a very rational, thought-provoking process for you. Much like buying a car or deciding where to vacation.

Do you want to be happy? Easy. Go with United. Pots of money, more history than Chelsea/City, less objectionable than LFC. And virtually guaranteed of success season after season. Means statistically that you'll be pleased on more weekends than any other choice.

But one does not make a case for supporting Everton. Everton is a heart thing. You go with the Blues, prepare to get your heart broken over and over and paradoxically love her more and more every time. Despair and euphoria, and far more of the former, but far greater heights of the latter.

This is perfect. We were stationed in England when I was a kid and I *thought* I had a team - likely glamorized beyond reason in the 20 some years when you could not get any info in the US about soccer
A couple years before WC2010, I started hanging out on several message boards for various teams, mostly with US players as I liked seeing "outside" opinions, but many without (including the aforementioned team)

You learn a lot about a team's ethos from its supporters and thus where you would fit.

Long after Howard is gone I will still be Everton Blue

I was chosen

It wasn't L'pool, but still damn embarrassing now. I was only five FFS! I liked the colors
**hangs head in shame
