Eh ban me already. What do I care.

You guys think it's funny and you hold this club near and dear and won't let anyone in.

You're a bunch of hipster douchebags. I'll just go back to only Bayern where my family is from and [Poor language removed] on all of England.
Creased me this. Love the way the yank plazzies come out with this sort of stuff.

"I'll go support someone else"

Ok, who's arsed?

Tim Howard was crap and Landon Donovan was just a second rate David Bentley with a Cenk Tosun hairline. Actually like both of them tbf.

Can you in all your years imagine any proper Evertonian saying 'right that's it, done with you fellas taking the piss out of my rapist life hero. Off to support Big Red. Koff the lot of you'

Nah, me neither.

Without trying to be edgy here, they just don’t get it like we do. They make all the right noises and wear the gear and stay up late to watch games but it’s too easy for them to just walk away, they’re not as emotionally connected as we are... the losses don’t hurt as much and the winning isn’t as euphoric. You can’t just wake up one day when you’re 25 and decide you’re gonna pick a premier league team to support because you like the soccerball.... it’s got to be in your blood ffs.

I've been surrounded by plastics here in Canada for nearly 20 years now.

They don't get it.

They're used to seeing their teams be in with a chance of winning it all once in a while because all of their leagues have some semblance of fairness from league-wide salary caps and the draft system.

Footy doesn't work like that. It was always a capitalist sport and it grew organically and not via a "franchise" model.

They don't understand why we support teams that aren't winning the title and don't just switch to gloryhunting to one that does (Yanks and Canadians are terrible for this. LA Lakers and New England Patriots fans everywhere, Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins for ice hockey when they were on form).

Most of their teams haven't really been established enough to develop that family history bond most of us have with our footy clubs and even if they do the gloryhunting culture encourages them to pack in their grandad's team when they're crap and jump on the bandwagon for someone else.

I hope you aren't suggesting American fans gloryhunt as a rule. The younger generations (which I'm a part of so don't make this out to be some boomer thing) might be more prone to jumping around, but the larger percentage of fans overall live and die with the teams they've grown up with. Often those teams are from their hometown or their family's hometown too. Especially in the NFL. Even the gloryhunters tend to stick with the team once they get hooked on. That's why the Cowboys are still the most popular despite being closer to the bottom than the top this century.

Gloryhunting is gloryhunting.

You just watch how many of your UTD mates are still buying kits in a decade if their decline keeps up.

They're more likely to stick with the American sports teams they "support" because the cap and draft system means that every team stands a good chance of rebuilding. It's far easier to be loyal to your team in those circumstances.

When it comes to Footy you get the likes of @Yank who say they're going to support the RS or Bayern instead.

Those types never really had a connection with the team beyond liking a specific player, because they're successful, or they like his instagram videos or their skill moves on FIFA.

I'm not suggesting it's all of them but it definitely seems more prominent over here to have people support a team they have no tangible connection to. Back in Liverpool you'd get the odd manc gloryhunter (expect the wools) but the abuse/disdain from the locals for these types keeps it at bay for the most part(Southern Kopites excepted).

Thankfully I don't really know any United supporters.

I get what you mean, but I think throwing shade at Americans supporting our sports is over the top. Some proper sports towns over here even if the code of football is different and we play rounders instead of cricket. Places like Philly, Boston, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Cleveland, Kansas City, Seattle, Chicago and I'm sure others live and die with the local teams.

NBA is the only one that is questionable as people have sort of gravitated to supporting players in a weird way over the team. But I think that comes down to the nature of the sport where a superstar player is the team.

I connect with Everton best I can, that's why I post here as I don't really know too many serious blues otherwise, but I accept it would be much easier for me to just drop it than the lot living in the area. I don't intend to do that however.

Hell yeah, this! Only like after 85% of away games in the last decade and a fair old percentage of home games too. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Nah, me neither.

Wait. No. I didn't see this part...erm...awkward. I'll just try and style this out now my secret is out...:p

Oh God imagine being able to just turn around and say "Nar, Everton isnt for me, IM OUT", I would pay anything for that.

I mean if the Club announced liquidation tomorrow I would be very sad for a week at least. Then I'd move on in my life and not have to endure the stress of leading 2-0 in the 90th minute only to be heartbroken again.

The biggest loss for me would be your chubby arse and a bunch of fun people who've entertained me for over a decade on here.
