Looked great at Valencia, so good that Barca bought him
looked cr@p at Barca, so bad their fans booed him.
I'm not really familiar with him, but it seems he was a great fit for Valencia, but not for Barca.
Is Silva's style of football more like Valencia or Barca?

His stats are interesting to me.

At Valencia he averaged 1.3 shots per game, 0.9 keypasses per game, 1.5 dribbles per game, at Barca 0.5 shots per game, 0.3 keypasses per game 0.5 dribbles per game.

I can only assume he was given a different role at Barca, a less flashy job.

Anyway, I found it interesting.

I think a certain Lionel Messi may have had a role in those stats.

For sure, bigger role to fill in our side. Does he improve us. yes, is he available. yes. Get him in.

Theres no guarantee he would improve us.

The poor feckers had a two year period of slowly getting worse to the point where he's suffered from anxiety by all accounts.

Its a risk. He's technically good but its a signing that really could go any which way. Disaster...meh....woohoo. if he does sign hopefully it will be woohoo but ive watched him lurch between disaster and meh for two years now.

No guarantee he would improve us? He would improve us drastically in midfield. No doubt in my mind. He has a fantastic passing range, unlike any of our current midfielders.

So you are saying that a player, who has just had a shocker for most of the last two seasons with his own fans groaning at his every mistake and roaring their disapproval when he was subbed on, is guaranteed to improve us?

No chance of it not working out?

Im afraid you are wrong. Any player who has had the two seasons he has just had would most definitely carry a risk with him. He has shown recently that he has issues handling pressure.....Goodison Park after the team has a crap start to the season and a weak minded player aint cutting it would definitely be a pressure situation for him. Going on what Ive seen of him for two years id expect him to struggle with that.

As i said in a previous post....if he is happy and confident then he could very well bring some good qualities to the team....the problem is there is no guarantee of that, especially not if we start slowly this season.

Of course if he signs I hope it turns out to a brilliant signing, but I would give it a 40% chance of working out based on what I've watched every week of him.

A little bit too late, but I think this is the closest the club has come in trying to replace Arteta. Would slot in nicely next to Gana and give us a lot of much needed creativity and mobility in comparison to Schneiderlin.

Lets be fair here, 1. Hes hardly had a shocker the last two seasons, difficult, yes, but so would anyone trying to replace Xavi. 2. They were groaning because he was Portuguese initially and rumours were he 'liked Ronaldo over Messi' 3. He's head and shoulders better than anything we have in midfield. He has all the technical and physical attributes required. The mental aspect can be resolved. Gueye/Schniederlin/Davies don't have a through pass in their locker. Gomes does and more.

Yeah, I'm really struggling to find the issue here. So he wasn't playing ahead of Rakitic or Busquets or Iniesta. Honestly, maybe the issue is that he doesn't fit in that possession based model. The guy can carry the ball, he can move it upfield. That's not really encouraged at Barca. I have a concern that he's not physical enough, although he is physical to be clear. He can knock guys off the ball, he's a big guy. I think he fits pretty darn well in the Silva model. And look, when he gets healthy, he'll push Morgan out of the lineup. We'll also recoup his fee when we sell McCarthy or Schneiderlin in January.

If it means Schneiderlin won’t be anywhere near the pitch and Gueye can get back to doing what he does best then I’m all for it. Hell of a transformation to our XI if we manage to get a couple competent centre halves in.

Bang on mate, lets hope we them all ;)

Ha....where did this he likes Ronaldo over Messi nonsense come from? Ridiculous...sorry but that is. He comes up a lot in conversation when discussing him with other fans here and ive never heard anybody mention it. Its purely based on what he has shown since he signed.

I went to the games. He very quickly looked like he was shot of confidence and was in and out of the team and was pretty much a joke to many fans (not myself as you could see he wanted to do his best but was like a frightened child out there). He had the occasional moments where you could see the player he was but it was very rare. He was easily brushed off the ball and very scared to do anything adventurous in possession and within a game youd see the confidence drain out of him until you expected him to make a mistake every time.

In fairness to Valverde he kept supporting him and keeping him in the squad and giving him minutes even before it came out about his anxiety which led to the squad and fans rallying around him. Which was great to see when it happened.

Again im not arguing with that he could be better than what we have, he has or had the talent, and of course the mental side of things can be improved...my only point is going on his last two seasons you would have to fairly conclude that his signing would be more likely to be a failure than a success. Its a risk and carries no guarantees of a happy ending.

However as I said earlier, I'd be happy with his Ma in midfield over Scheiderlin at this point.
