No option to buy if he turns good for us
Like I said with Zouma, his parent club obviously still feel that he has potential to make it there if they've not pre-arranged a fee so it shows his possible talent.

Obviously if he has a fantastic season here then it'll make it more difficult for us to retain his services, but let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet.

He has a huge amount to prove....this move is pivotal for his career. There wont be any question over his effort that's for sure. Just hope its enough.

Very disappointing that we could not get an option to buy especially with this player. I know that for Zouma it would have been nearly impossible, but surely for Gomes even a high option should have been negotiated in the deal...Barcelona will be very happy with this because the player will probably raise his profile here which means big bucks for Barcelona next year when they selling him on a profit to an established big European team.

Well since the team wanted to move him for £20M I don't think a sale would be that hard unless he becomes something amazing this year. I highly doubt he's going to finish the year being the kind of player Barcelona think are going to bring back to start for them. So like someone said I think of Lukaku type situation if he does well for us.

I think if Silva can get the player that was there at Valencia out mate, it's not wishful thinking at all to say he's a huge upgrade on our midfield.

Btw, I've seen him play a fair few times for Barca and I agree with your assessment. I don't think it was a lack of trying, though. He just simply wasn't cut out for what they signed him for. There was a lot of pressure for him to deliver and ease out Iniesta, but ultimately he was never that type of player. As I think you said yesterday, it was always a strange move.

I'd say its wishful thinking because the bad patch has been two seasons. If it was just a bad season or half a season then yeah you could be much more hopeful he would come in and do well. As it is, the signs point more towards no. But yeah, Silva can really show his man management skills by getting a tune out of Gomes for us.

Its hard to say that the root cause was him just not being cut out for a role or whatever, because he very quickly got into a rut whereby he was even making a hash of simple things.

Maybe he himself was not expecting such a move and it was all too much for him.

I read somewhere that he couldnt handle the pressure and became depressed, which ofc led to more bad performances, more nerves, etc.

I hope he gets a fair crack here, a little worried about him if he doesnt hit the ground running, our fans can be beastly at times.

I don't want to see the lovely chap cry live on Sky Sports whilst trudging around Goodison

The fans and club got right behind Aaron Lennon when his problems became public.
