Confirmed Signing André Gomes

After he came out about his anxiety he didn't really do anything different....he just got more support from the crowd. He unfortunately didn't turn in fine performances.

His good start was just some promising moments in the opening games. He then went between OK, average, below average and terrible for the rest of his time here. Based on last two years I'd only say he is a possible upgrade on the lazy Schneiderlin. Huge upgrade? Very unlikely.

A lot of wishful thinking in this thread! Everton knows just what to do with that.

Barcelona did spend quite a hefty sum on him, €35 million, plus €20 million in add-ons (according to wiki). My feeling is that with less pressure on his shoulders, he can show the sort of form that enticed Barca to sign him in the first place.

Whether it's wishful thinking or not, we will wait and see.

Duncan Castles who has good connections at Man Utd has written this piece:

Talks to sign Yerry Mina from Barcelona were terminated over agents fees, with the player ending up at Everton.
<paper> has been told this deal fell through over the structure of the fees, rather their amount, with United also unhappy with the agent’s behaviour, Barca’s wish for a buyback clause, and that Andre Gomes be included in the transaction.

If Castles writes about Man Utd then its pretty much gospel, I wonder how much we will be playing Gomes if he was 'forced' upon us.

Personally I think he might be a decent addition to the team if we can get him firing on all cylinders.

He seems like a really nice guy too.

It's going to be somewhat difficult to boo him. I still will of course, but still, tinged with a bit of regret nevertheless.

He really does. Very down to earth in any interview I've read over the last couple of years. It was a hard watch seeing him start a game okay, make a mistake, the groans would start and then he'd lose all confidence. Hopefully Marco gives him a big hug everyday and sends him WhatsApp messages with lots of smiley emojis and thumbs up.

I'd say its wishful thinking because the bad patch has been two seasons. If it was just a bad season or half a season then yeah you could be much more hopeful he would come in and do well. As it is, the signs point more towards no. But yeah, Silva can really show his man management skills by getting a tune out of Gomes for us.

Its hard to say that the root cause was him just not being cut out for a role or whatever, because he very quickly got into a rut whereby he was even making a hash of simple things.

Maybe he himself was not expecting such a move and it was all too much for him.

I think it's a combination of things.

But honestly, the pressure of Barca/Madrid fans is ludicrous. There is no slack cut to players, really.

I think Gomes was never really cut out for the move - it was probably too early for him and to a team that didn't suit him.

But he has more talent/potential than any of our midfielders really, so I'm hopeful he'll be a good addition. He's the type of player we've needed there for a long time, at least.

No im not blaming you.
Just cant believe the ignorance of some people. I know a few people with the disability and they are the most wonderfully happy and talented . It makes me feel so humble.
I have a nephew with cerebral palsy and he's a (naughty word).
Only joking about the naughty word bit, I remember the first time I took him to Goodison (I converted him from his rs dad) and he asked me "which one is Everton"? He sometimes visits GoT, so :D

Back on topic, Gomes should be a good signing for us, something different from Schneiderlin, Gana and Davies.

Not a chance we took a player cos Barca forced us to.

Maybe Barca asked United to match our offer, which meant they HAD to take Gomes.

I dont buy that we had to take anyone to buy Mina. On the other hand, I know we were in the market for a big midfielder, and probably made Barca a loan offer at the end of the window when we couldnt get a permanent deal for one of these other midfield targets we were after.
Seems a good deal to me.
