Why not bernard finished the season strong had a great link up with digne, gomes showed glimpses of his talent just lost his way abit towards the end why not have high expectations

...all this Gomes stuff, always seems to me it’s a done deal as long as the player is keen. First Spurs walk away and now West Ham because they’ve been told.

Doubt anything official will be announced until the Spanish window opens.

I think for many reasons the deal has been done a long time ago
The player has all the power , if he has told Barca it’s Everton or I sit on your bench there’s nothing Barca can do
Gomes knows we offer him the best chance to re build his career

That’s the nature of the beast when it comes to loans, though. In retrospect, a bit more “try before we buy” wouldn’t have gone amiss in recent windows...

He could get better. He certainly coukd be more productive with the ball with some better attackers. But not sure how he's getting better defensively. He's legit terrible. Maybe his positioning could improve with more experience in Silva's tactics. Either way, we HAVE to find a better CM that can dominate a game next to Gana.

I see it that he's had a look at the league, got a good few games under his belt, a decent pre season and he'll be as good as last season but more consistent. Same with Bernard.

We've listed like 10-20 names in the transfer thread. He's going to be on high wages and like I said, he'll likely be a squad player if we make the right moves in the window. Part of it is fit. We admit losing Gana and Siggy. Gomes is a good player, but is he the right fit with those guys? I don't think so.

It will depend on what the mix in midfield is next season.
If it is still a combination of Gana/Gomes/Schneiderlin/Davies then we have largely an idea of what we can expect..... after the performances at the end of the season there is nothing wrong with that.
If we were to add a different type of player to that mix then we could see a different Gomes next season.
I can't help but feel that Silva wants a strong powerful athletic ball winning midfielder in the team which could allow Gomes to play a more advanced, creative role.

1) the transfer thread is abar 1000 pages long im not reading all that, why don't you just list these names as your the one saying it
2) gomes a squad player? he really won't though
3) he is a completely different player to siggy and gana so losing/keeping them would have no bearing on gomes

I see Erikson has issued a "come get me" plea to Real Madrid.....

It's not so much replacing Eriksen (much more creative player than Gomes), I think its more a thing that they're short of centre midfielders (Dembele left, Wanyama is knackered, Winks is very young, Dier is average, cissoko isn't a top player either).....so Gomes would be a good signing for Spurs unfortunately

So what type of player suits them two? And they’re also both 30, so in 2 years we will have to rip the midfield up and start again anyway.

I personally would like us to play a 3 man midfield with no number 10. So I have no issue with Gana going this summer and Siggurdsson next summer.
I see Gomes a bit like Dembele, who joined spurs at a similar age and struggled for a season and then becoming a beast fir the next 3 or 4 years.

Also his stats for goals & assists were never great, but he was so strong and technically great. He helped them dominate the middle of the pitch in so many games.
