oh absolutely they’d have gone berserk about it , about the var decisions about everything and had their friends in the press doing the same .

I also feel maybe it’s a bit distasteful but I suppose Credit to spurs media team because they’ve controlled the narrative and achieved what they're wanted in getting the red rescinded.
Absolutely right.

Everton keeping quiet other than Silva who barely raised his eyebrows when interviewed after the game, completely allowed Spurs to take control of the narrative and bizarrely claim the moral high ground.

And the club CANNOT see that !!!!!

I'm not sure why the narrative matters... Give Son 3 games, don't give him 3 games, let spurs use it to make him look like a poor little wronged mite, whatever... None of it has any impact on Everton, does it?

You cannot be serious ?

By not coming out strongly against the farcical decisions in both the game on Sunday and the game at Brighton, Everton are in my opinion guilty of not standing up for ourselves.

Had Silva exploded in both those post-match interviews and been soundly and resolutely defended and supported by at least his Director of Football, we would have sent clear messages.

Firstly to the football authorities that Everton are sick to death of these and other injustices...
Secondly to the fans that the club is absolutely united with them in their indignation...
Thirdly to all the clubs corporate partners and sponsors that we are not a club that will take things lightly...
And most importantly, they would have sent a message to our own players that the hierarchy are willing to back them to the hilt.

By saying nothing and leaving it to an open letter last night from the Fans Forum the club, by that I mean the Board of Directors, have abdicated the responsibility they hold to defend and protect our club, they are the guardians who have hidden from a fight.

I'm conflicted on this if I'm honest. I personally think Son and Spurs should have just accepted the ban, but if the roles were reversed I'd want Everton to try and get the important player back as soon as possible, especially as Son's challenge on its own wasn't a red card challenge IMO and it was only due to unfortunate circumstances that Gomes got hurt

I think we all remember how West Ham had the knives out for Jimmy Mac after he injured one of their players, and we backed our player, so it shouldn't really shock us that Spurs are doing the same

How does any of that pertain to the narrative the spurs media team created around Son?

You're conflating 2 different issues.

If we'd gone hard and strong about those calls, we might just might have taken control of the post game narrative.

We didn't and that opened the door for Spurs - quite rightly from their perspective - to take the lead, hence we've heard way more about their appeal and Sons apparent distress than we have from our club over several awful decisions.

In a nutshell Andy.....the Gomes tackle and it's ramifications has obscured the fact that Son should have been sent off for a 2nd yellow, even if folk don't see the tackle as a straight red. What is galling for me is the lack of reaction from the club to the incidents you mention. Southampton players must be rubbing their hands in delight, knowing they can get dicey decisions going their way while the club just accepts it. Shameful imo.

Because our tacit acceptance of the challenge and its consequences allowed Spurs to have a free reign at their spin on the story.

That's how I read Andy's point and I completely agree. The 2 issues are inextricably linked.

Ok.. so why does it matter that Spurs have taken control of the post game narrative... Why is the narrative important? Who cares how they spin the story?

For crying out loud sake...

Let me put it simply for you... WTF have we heard from Everton over anything in both the Brighton and Spurs games ?

If you are wronged and don't stand up for yourself, you'll be wronged again, and again, and again ad infinitum.

We should be speaking out when we are wronged and not passively accepting it with a shrug of the shoulders and simply being 'nice little plucky Everton'

I disagree.

I've posted a lot in here that I think a red card was fair. Plenty - even amongst our own fans - disagree though, and I'm not sure that the club stomping their feet over it would really change that. I don't know about you but when I watch something like that I just make my own mind up on what I think has happened/should happen. The wronged club's stance on it really doesn't affect my thoughts in any way, so why do you think it would matter in this instance?

@Disgruntledgoat

Because, and this is just my opinion, we are further demonstrating that we are a meek, toothless club who are happy to accept terrible refereeing, VAR decisions and even serious injuries on our players without complaint.

It's like telling the bullied kid at school to just be quiet and take it.

I'm not advocating rioting or anything but I genuinely do not understand our abject silence on these issues, especially ones which are now including serious injuries to our players.

Son's complete exoneration from a challenge that was completely on him and his red mist, the fact he has now somehow become the victim in all this, is the latest example of us actually helping to ensure more stuff like this will happen in the future.
