Arsenal do not intend to appeal Granit Xhaka’s red card and will reluctantly accept the likely four match ban for his dismissal in the 2-1 defeat to Burnley.

Xhaka received the second red of his Arsenal career – and his ninth in the past three seasons – in the 65th minute of Sunday’s match for a two-footed tackle on Burnley midfielder Steven Defour.

Referee Jon Moss consulted with his assistant before showing Xhaka a straight red, and Standard Sport understands that Arsenal believe input of a second official in the decision to give the midfielder his marching orders only makes an appeal more unlikely to succeed.

Arsene Wenger offered no defence for Xhaka in the aftermath of the Burnley loss, though he did avoid directly saying he was disappointed with the player when asked by Standard Sport.

They didnt appeal.

Even better then that they didn't appeal MG, took it for what it was that it was a sly arse tackle and not worth appealing.

Its a shame Spurs didn't do the same

Come on MG, your a top poster (I mean that genuinely) and I know you've got your opinion on the matter and have stuck by it but it wasn't a slight nudge in the back.

Also, conspiracy wise (I don't think there is one) but I think it's alright to say a) the FA is a joke for rescinding it b) Spurs are cheeky beauts for even appealing it c) Everton are a soft touch for not saying anything about it.

That's not me coming up with any kind of conspiracy, that's me as a football supporter seeing it how it is.

But it definitely wasn't just a slight nudge in the back. Slight nudges don't make ankles look north whilst the toes point to the south

I just dont think it was a red card offence mate.

I watched the vid over and over again and my constant viewpoint is that he lost his rag, made a tackle I see every week and a freak accident means we are without 1 of our better players for an extended period.

Nobody will change their viewpoint after this length of time and it brings me no joy taking my current stance, so im gonna try and stop saying it!

See theres your problem, what has anything that has gone before got to do with it?

People are so consumed with rage and the desire to blame somebody.

It was a freak injury, caused by him stumbling after a slight nudge in the back.

An independent panel deemed it not a red card offence, im not saying they are all-powerful, but 50% of biased Everton fans consider it not a red card offence and im almost certain most neutrals would consider it not a red card offence also.

Anyway, ive made my point, repeatedly, im just a little peeved at the ongoing "ITS A CONSPIRACEE" im reading on an hourly basis.
Broken into its simplest form.
Gomes hand makes contact with Sons face, play continues, Son gets angry as there was no foul given (photo you referenced) Son sprints towards the play, has a go at Iwobe, continues sprinting the guy that made contact with his face has the ball, Son lunges in from behind giving Gomes no chance to take evasive action as he can't see him coming, makes contact with the player getting nowhere near the ball, causes Gomes to fall and trap his ankle causing it to break. That's what you ate defending, that's akin to saying, I was driving along hit someone from behind they lost control and hit a tree, I just hit them from behind it was the tree that did the damage.

Personally I see nothing in Xhakas tackle thats even remotely like Sons.
Btw that post of your was the wrong one mate.(agst Burnley)
It was agst Swansea the other.
Burnley was 2 footed tackle 4 game ban i believe.

Anyway you obviously have stuck to your point from Sunday so we'll agree to disagree.
But theres no getting away from a read of the rules which quiet clearly state its a red card card offence.
So as history shows time and time again we will continue to roll over and have our belly's scratched.
As you say this is why we cant have nice things.

Just look at the state of this utter bilge from the BBC!

Our club allowed this disgraceful narrative to be a thing. To read this tripe you'd of thought that Gomes was the one who'd done wrong and Son was the real victim. I'm disgusted that we've just stood back and let this happen. Shame on the people who run us, their lack of dignity, spine and self respect has made a laughing stock of this club, it's no wonder we're so crap with attitudes like this at the top!

You seem to be caught up on the point that because we see similar tackles a lot we shouldn't treat this one different than those. But this one has a crucial difference and ignoring that is ridiculous.

That is utterly repugnant by the BBC. Reading that you'd think Everton and Andre Gomes had taken out a court order against Son for never again celebrating goals in football.

Seeing as this is the Andre Gomes thread, and I couldn't give a flying fork what Son should or shouldn't be doing, what is the latest news on Gomes progress?

Surgery went well, he's now back home with his family recuperating. He posted a quick message on social media to say thanks to all for the support and encouragement that he has received.

Unbelievable that Son is now effectively milking this...hes chased after Gomes in anger and gone in from behind.

For me ive not mentioned it till now but all the posts slating Silva et al...what about the Captain? Coleman going to console Son...

A winning captain would have gone absolutely mental at him.

Taking away my blue tinted glasses mate, I go back to basics

He was given a red for serious foul play as he endangered the safety of an opposing player.

That's the rule.

Came from behind at speed and endangered the safety of an opposing player

Breaking his ankle in the process

That's not me making the rules up is it mate. The definition of the rules is that it was a red. The fact he broke his ankle just makes it 1000 times worse

The appeal makes it 10,000 worse

Everton saying nothing makes it 100,000 times worse

imo

That match makes you wonder about big four bias, we had two, in my view stonewall penalties, both of course missed by one of the very worst referee's in the league, Atkinson.
Both picked up by VAR, ( at least I think the second one on Ritchie was picked up ) .Incredibly none were given as penalties, could anyone see VAR not giving them at Anfield or Old Trafford ?
