For the first time I agree with everything you say Goat. And Gomes is a 6/8.
His job is to sit, break up play and drive the ball forward.
I think thats part of the problem, people have an idea of what he SHOULD be doing, not what his role in the side is.
Now I will say he should certainly be chipping in with more goals, but its a little like wondering why Gana didnt score more.
You see im not even sure what we need, 442 in 2020 is proper weird and with us having no idea what Gmblammo is its hard to say what we need.
We need creativity and we need goals from midfield, we need somebody who dominates and controls the game, I doubt any such player exists, maybe the boy Neves at Wolves off the top of my head.

lol lolThe problem is the 2nd part of his job 'break up play' - he has zero ability or longing to do that. He is too slow to track, its not natural to him and his tackling is pathetic
Yes, he had one of the best defensive mids next to him last season.lol lol
He's not the best granted but to say he has zero ability in that regards is comical. He works best with somebody who has lots of legs alongside him, as we saw with Glast season and at times with Davies this season. I'm sure he'll work well with Gbamin when he's fit.
Anyway, I'd much rather focus on the positives than the negatives. He gets the ball forward quickly with accuracy like no other midfielder we have, and the likes of Richy and Dom will only benefit from that.
....terrific on the ball, proper footballer but he’s out of the game when the opposition get beyond him. He’s clearly off the pace following his injury, but even so he’s not the best of runners.
Playing 2 up front, we’re really lacking athleticism in central midfield. If Gomes is a regular starter next season we need to compensate for his lack of pace.
You dont need pace in the middle of the park.
I think he's never been quick but is a powerful runner with the ball when he's at full fitness, it's hard to fully judge his ball recovery ability when he isn't in peak condition. He's miles off that right now. So we have to be patient with him, he has that touch of class and can control a game even when not 100%. Agree he does need legs around him though it's why Davies plays I suspect.....terrific on the ball, proper footballer but he’s out of the game when the opposition get beyond him. He’s clearly off the pace following his injury, but even so he’s not the best of runners.
