2019/20 Andre Gomes

I’ve just watched a video that gives close ups of the incident on YouTube it’s 3.33 long. I would advise to watch as I think a lot of the blame should fall at Auriers feet for the injury he’s flying in on the standing leg.

There's a pretty nasty pic on twitter where it looks like his foot's hanging off. Also from what's being posted there it looks like the impact with Aurier is what has caused the break. But still it was Son's lunge that knocked him off balance.

This is a good point:

Maybe we'll get to a stage where any foul resulting from no attempt to play the ball will result in a red.

Lads, for perspective, I had the exact same injury. Tibia and fibula break just above the ankle. My foot was also in the position Andre's was. Had to keep checking it was still attached as it felt like it had fallen off. It's a horrendous injury but it's one that is far more straightforward to sort than a mid leg, skin breaking leg break. Pins and plates will have him back, with extensive rehab to a high level, in 6/7 months.

Utterly horrendous for the big man, I know for me it brought some dark times and he already has had issues with mental health. At this time and moving on we all need to show Andre some big love and support.

Is anyone else getting a little annoyed with the sympathy for Son? Like his red card is the biggest injustice of the whole sorry afternoon?

Son made the reckless tackle due to the elbow incident which is why Son reacted like he did, the outcome of his mood ruined another player season and he knew what he done.

I don't understand people defending Son. About 2 minutes before the foul, Gomes got away from Son and Son went down holding his face. He got nothing for it, felt aggrieved and retaliated, he slid in from behind, didnt get the ball and took out the player, he meant to foul him. He might not have meant to injure him, but he meant to foul him

Exactly, no need for that tackle

Spot on this. Of course he didn't mean to take his leg off but at the same time, just taking people out by clipping them is dangerous. All the coordination is lost and it's in the hands of the Gods as to whether there's a bad injury. Just because more often than not it doesn't result in a serious injury doesn't mean it's acceptable.
