Difficult to get enthused about a player who can't be enthused enough to put in a decent performance. Injury aside, he hasn't done enough.

But we don't have enough in midfield therefore he stays.

Major problem with many of the players is what appears to be a self-perpetuating apathy towards game performance whilst at this club. Is this the player's fault solely though? Must take blame but the club must also, its like an accepted mind-set at this club. I've a horrible feeling we could put Ronaldo into the club and the invisible and automatic process of turning him into 4 goal a season merchant would begin, with him being totally unaware of the magic unfolding upon his abilities!

But getting back to Gomes, he's not even of good calibre anymore. Not even part of the Portugal squad for the Euros, where he was previously a staple, tells you all you need to know. He hasn't come back from his injury and the jury was out with some even before that with some of his performances for us.

Therefore he is perfect for this club, a midfielder that doesn't score, create or tackle successfully much, a position we're spoiled for choice in.

Certain player's lax attitudes are accentuated by knowing there's either no competition for their position (enabled by the club), or even if there is, the 'competing' players are as apathetic as them, due to the unique style of conditioning that is instilled at this club.

So many opportunities here for hungry players to show what they could do better but no one ever does, or can for whatever reason, despite us being told of the talent we have. We perhaps don't have the talent then but that doesn't explain the lack of effort shown by the alternatives either. Effort is all we ask for and so many times over the last few seasons we haven't been shown it.

Who knows, maybe if they did it show effort it would be knocked out of them pretty sharp-ish! Don't rock the boat and ruin the gravy train coast journey for everyone.

The fact is the injury finished him, sad, but fact.

When he joined he looked good but I think that may have been down to the fact everybody else around him was slug like in passing and moving...

He's blended right in..

Be delighted if someone was stupid enough to buy him

I think it's best for him and the club, if he were to move on. He'd probably be a decent acquisition for a team playing in the Spanish, Italian or French league.

When we signed him on loan, everyone loved him. When there was a possibility he wouldnt sign permanently everyone was gutted. He then got his injury and came back sooner than anyone could imagine.

Hes shown at times his quality but has been inconsistent. He would have had a proper break over summer and will have a full pre season, I think hes a good player that has been inconsistent- I hope he can prove people wrong like Pickford has done.

Only thing that got me through the last 12 months of lockdown was the thought of being able to boo the hell out of this bloke when I can get down GP.
Aren't you the fella that says anyone not enthusiastically cheering Benitez and the boys as soon as the season starts isn't a proper bloo and should be rooted out of the club? Odd stance to take on Gomes given that viewpoint.
