We seem to have always carried players who are just not at the pace of the league Alcaraz Barry (after his first season) Siggurdson Williams Davies Gomes Bernard Tosun Keane Klaasen

Just all far too slow for premier league football and not good enough to make up for it like James was at times.

…Barry. What a footballer. Such a shame you included him in that list.

I think I first saw him as a 17 year old playing CB for Villa at Goodison, he was terrific.

Wouldn’t write Gomez of quite yet. The added pace of Townsend & Gray will suit him.
Honestly I don’t think anyone joining us would suit him now. After his injury he seems to play scared, barely puts in a tackle, wimps out of tackles. Can’t be playing in centre mid and unable to tackle. Needs a slower paced league that isn’t as tough.

I like the guy, seems a genuine nice bloke, on his loan he was very good but after signing him he’s not been the best and I think the injury he got has ruined any chance he had of being a big success for us. Also far too big a wage to be a sub.

It wasn’t just the injury, although that didn’t help, the big problem was that he was sussed out after his initial loan spell He looked like a world beater when he joined because he was getting time on the ball, after a while though, it became apparent that if he was hustled on the ball he was not effective, he always needs that extra touch.

Don’t get me wrong, he would be a very good player in another league, he is hard to knock off the ball and if he is given time and space he is a very good passer of the ball. Sadly he is seldom going to be given that time and space in the prem.

Even before his injury, he lacked pace. That first season, he was just so composed, agile on the ball, and made up for the lack of pace.

Then he got his move and his feet were firmly under the table, and he lost that hunger for me. Genuinely think that’s what his problem is.

We, as a fanbase, hold on to injuries too long. Coleman for years got a pass cause he broke his leg, and most of the reasons people give for Gomes being shocking are cause of his injury. He was terrible all season, leading up to the injury, and the injury has just made him worse.

£10m for him, and we’ve got a great deal in return.

Nothinf against him as a person, but as a club, we need go remove ourselves from these players lacking the ability to get us where we’re we want to be.

Unfortunately he’s much like Bernard and needs shifting - huge pay with little return. Only problem is he’s got a long contract and that’ll be difficult. Between, him, Tosun, Delph, Sigurdsson and Iwobi we’re paying about £450k p/w for players who will offer us next to nothing on the pitch this year. No wonder we’re goosed with FFP. At least if James stays he will contribute at times.

Tbf it's been very difficult to look decent in this team over those last few years unless you are a destructive midfielder. Everyone hides, the build up is too slow and the opposition can easily press and cause problems for us in our own half.

He's probably a decent player, but not suited to this league or at least our team, which provides no options/time and therefore the ability to build up confidence, which is crucial to him more than others.

He really does seem to have disappeared.
I saw him play in the second game in America but nothing since.

The club is being very vague about who is missing and for what reason, correctly so.

I do think he may well leave in the next ten days.

He’s the sort of player that we should be able to shift tbh. Was very highly rated in recent times and has undoubted quality. Just not in the Prem.

I love how our fans are the best in the world for excuses. He will be better now has legs around him in midfield. He will be better now he has pace in front of him. He will be better now because his mum & dad have moved in
