I think we will see Gomes and VDB playing in that position. I think VDB will start on Tues and be told to play just like Gomes. Gomes on the bench to replace him after 70.

Go back through this thread to get a fairer assessment of this guy. Personally, I couldn’t see the ‘great performance’ he supposedly put in today. All I saw was a guy who when he gets the ball looks for someone to pass it BACK to.

I think he has improved a bit, standing up a little more physically and using the ball a bit quicker.

Confidence is his biggest issue. And speed of thought and decision-making. He needs to be that little quicker, stronger, and more ambitious with his passing. I don't think his passing ability is as good as some make out though, especially over a longer range.

Not just Gomes but it looks like all players in the squad have been given a clean sheet by Frank to start afresh, and I'm following suit too with that.

Not worried any more how they played in the past under dinosaurs. Yesterday was the reset for them all and they responded.

Gomes deserved the accolades as did quite a few more.

I mean even Cenk comes on for 2 minutes, immediately charges down a defender like a prime Wayne Rooney, picks his pocket, turns and slots a belter of a ball in to the box to aid in a goal. Unbelievable.

Agreed. When Gomes first came over here on loan he was the best midfielder I’d ever seen at the club. I loved Fellaini and Arteta but I’d never seen someone run the game like he did.

I’d love to see him get back to his best.

He literally went for a great looking long range shot after 5 minutes.
His passing was good, he was finding blue shirts and trying to be positive

He's never ever been anywhere near the levels of Arteta, Pienaar or Fellaini. For the most part he's not even been on par with Darron Gibson.

I thought Allan was the more impressive player yesterday. He looked rejuvenated in there.

Gomes really did play well though. It’s hard to see how Lampard brings DVB in on Tuesday. Who does he drop.

Also how Alli comes into the team.
