And he was absolute AIDS so they sold him to us.

He was being compared to Iniesta, so yes by that level he wasn't good enough. Then he came to us and was in the main more than good enough. Then he was cut in two by a Korean hack job, never to get back to pre-hacking levels.

Dunno what the fuss is about. He was fine, he didn't recover to pre-injury levels. We're now trying to sell him. The revisionism on him because of his post injury levels is comical.

Was he? He was out for 10 weeks.

He was the exact same player before his injury as he was when he came back, go and have a read of the Aston Villa match thread from August that season

obviously 'cut in two' was hyperbole, but it was a horrific injury.

10 weeks - sure (actually 109 days which over 15 weeks but whatever). A horror injury and remarkable that he got back so soon - also yes.

And I'm sure you can find people saying he fully recovered post injury, and others who say he was never good before we signed him. I can find quotes on this forum that thought Sandro was the next superstar & Benitez was going to be a great manager for us.

I'd be surprised if the consensus of this place is that post horror tackle Gomes was at the same level as pre-horror tackle Gomes.

True, but he was also our best player at Anfield when Pickford had a mental breakdown to concede at the death though

What energy he had was eliminated by the Son injury. After that, whether physical or mental, he became completely useless

In a side like we have today, we cannot carry a passenger in midfield. We're going to need all the graft we can get. He'd be semi useful in a Ligue 1 side where they have all the possession. Like where he was last year

This^^^^ . Pre-injury he was a very decent player for us……..

He was injured on the 4th November and played against Arsenal on the 23rd February. Taking into account that he came back into training at least 2 weeks before he played in that game, I make that actually 12 weeks out injured at most. So we were both wrong but really it’s splitting hairs. He wasn’t out for that long and players have been out for much longer and not come back drastically worse like we’re all pretending he did.

I took my number from transfermarket which is generally where people go to look at times out for injury. Why not contact them and tell them they’re wrong.

You seem to have overlooked the broad consensus in the established press that it was remarkable he got back as soon as he did (I did link articles in my previous post which you’ll have probably overlooked), and that he was incredibly fortunate our medical staff acted the way they did. Look at times out for the same injury in Other players - it was a Bloody bad one.

I feel like this is akin to remonstrating with Davek over his views about Patterson.

Well I might do, because they’re clearly wrong, unless he didn’t play against Arsenal and every single source including all of our eyes are actually wrong.
