Andre Gomes

After some consideration I’m going to say no, post injury Gomes was worse than Tom Davies. He was good when he got passes off but he was slow in possession and also shot from distance with no chance of ever scoring. Off the ball he was always out of position and gave away horrible fouls in great positions for the opposition, honestly his defending was as naive as Gordon’s was, arriving late and clattering people when there was no need.
Davies wasn’t great but I’d much rather bring him on to get some tackles in and keep it simple on the ball.

Southampton away off the bench was one of the worst cameos ever. The foul were he just jumped into the back of the Southampton player was so careless and lazy.

I'm sure there'll be at least a couple of clubs willing to buy him for a few £m, a small fee in today's market, especially off the back of a good loan
You should be correct, unfortunately Everton seem to be a bit of a soft touch when it comes to our unwanted players.

"You have no money for a fee? No problem, have him on loan for the season"

"Wages too much? No problem, we will cover 80%"

I doubt there are any clubs that would pay a transfer fee and match his wages and give him 3+ year deal. It be either he stays as a squad option or goes out on loan again and get a decent deal for himself as a free agent next summer

The club need to present him (and others like him) with the following options.

1) Leave on a free now, we pay him nothing else
2) Leave on a loan with all his wages covered by the other club
3) Stay at Everton and enjoy 12 months of reserve team football.

These guys need motivating to take a pay cut and find themselves another club.

These guys have zero motivation though only their pay packets. It's the one job in the world unfortunately where you can sign a few years contract on collosal money and literally sit on your hands if you wish with very little repercussions

You forgot the locker trick ron...

Why would he leave on a free now?

He won’t get a better contract anywhere else.

There is the slight hope that he would get a good signing on fee that would make up the difference on his new contract but he could just cash I. This year and do it next year instead.

The French league is always derided for being slower but players like Rodriguez and Gomes make up for their slow pace with a faster football brain. as opposed to quicksilver players like Gray who do not see openings or play developing fast eough. Looking at Gomes' highlights reel on loan makes me think if Dyche can up his fitness levels, then we will need him esp during the AFCON period to thread through balls for Danjuma and hopefully the DCL replacement main striker. Also Gomes may just do an Iwobi, upping his game to earn another contract or attract another premiership club once he leaves on a free.

Why indeed? Especially when we let him enjoy his football in France, whilst paying his wages.

Perhaps the prospect of a year playing for Evertons reserves might make him more amenable to a pay cut somewhere else.

Quite clearly this loan them out and pick up the tab tactic doesn't work.

Same as all our high earners, he holds all the cards.

He has a contract and we're obliged to pay him.

They may well want him back in France and he seems keen to move there but they can't afford a fee AND a decent salary.

If the player digs in and says that's the only club he wants to join he'll leave for the classic undisclosed fee and we'll pay him a 'loyalty' bonus to top off his new wage.

That's not on Thelwell or Dyche, it's on the clowns who were only to happy to throw massive wages at these players.

Yet another one of the £20m+ club to leave on a free. Iwobi next year. Keane some time in the distant future. All those who laughed at people for saying we should be buying players with sell on value have a lot of egg on their faces at this point, this has crippled the club.
I mean, we should be. But the choice the club made was to buy players at close to peak value (in their mid 20s already) instead of younger players for cheaper fees.

Which we are still doing now (or trying to do now). For example, the strong links we are bidding 20m for Gnonto when a year ago he was bought for under 4m.

Most shocking performance I've ever seen by an Everton player. And I've seen a few.
