Don’t disagree with you often @Eggs but in this instance I do. Money is everything to us in our perilous state. He’s cost upwards of 50m in fee and wages with only a handful of good games in return.

….i think it’s a separate point and I wouldn’t disagree about him not being value for money. The point I’m making is, away from his contract him and his family have clearly found a home in the area and an affinity with the club, it was entirely evident on the ‘lap of celebration’.

We know we’re a basket case but perhaps there’s still something special about Everton, I get the impression that was very honest from Gomes.

He couldn't be arsed v Palace.
He doesn't love the club

I agree wholeheartedly about Everton being a special club. Players who’ve played for us have a real affinity for the club. Everton was just the type of club he needed to get over his treatment by Barca, it’s just a shame he didn’t contribute more on the pitch.

I'd suggest many of the more recent ones just have an affinity for the crazy contracts the club has given them. Oh, and the fact that they can take things easy and not really earn their wages.

That said, your version does sound better.

I like Andre.
It ended up he didn’t justify £11m per season, but he’s a case of what might have been for me.
His case wasn’t helped by managerial turmoil or his injury (inflicted maliciously by Son), but I can’t help but feel he wanted to be involved and do what he could but for various reasons his best was elusive or in short supply.
Good Luck in your next endeavours Andre.
