Noticed a few times tonight where we tried stuff but it didn't come off. Most of the team was like 'god sake' but not townsend. He had his head up and was openly clapping the player who attempted to try something.....its a major positive having townsend around. He's a leader.

I’m sure there will be park end fatalities, in the future, that we can pin on this lad but tonight that was pure blammo.

Townsend is a grafter, never stops working hard. Great at crossing and a few worldies in his locker. It is what we have needed. The joy he got and the fans got from that goal we should be able to bottle it.

Screamer aside, what I like most about him is he’s always talking to other players, telling them where to go and praising them. Tries to get the crowd going as well. I also noticed at one point Atkinson was speaking to him rather than Coleman. We’ve lacked some real leaders in the squad the last few years and it looks like we’ve picked one up here.

If we paid £20m everyone would be saying worth every penny but because we paid nowt he has to be useless. It is in the mindset of people
Some goal and would have added another cracker if it wasn’t for a great save from Pope. Interesting that he mentioned Hodgson wanted a lot of defensive work from him and he feels he has more freedom to contribute down the other end here. He may not tear many trees up but he will certainly chip in with goals and assists this season. There’s a lot to like about him. If James had done what Townsend did in the second half we would all be losing our minds.
