Anthony Gordon showed the type of energy and directness the whole team needed to have to get anything from Southampton today. Hopefully, he'll start against Newcastle Utd.

Might get a game next week on the basis of being the least worst option available but he didn’t stand out to me today. Looks like what he is, a promising kid with unbelievable pace but who is still a long way from being physically and tactically ready to be commanding a starting place for a team going for top 4. We shouldn’t expect too much from him just yet, patience.

Only reason I want him in a team is to help the balance and shape of the team, and add some of the energy we lack without Richarlison. Not expecting him to be all that productive, but his pace and directness will worry teams. The alternatives want to take about six touches per pass and come inside every time. Too easy to defend against.

Yeah that’s fair enough mate and you’re probably right. We tried Iwobi, he stunk the gaff out. Maybe Gordon will have less of a disruptive impact on the balance, as you say he’s got that similar profile to Ritchie and is certainly more direct.
