Endearing effort, but a time will come when effort alone is not enough. One thing we can be sure about is he certainly is going to try his hardest to make it.

Tom Davies has made a career at Everton based on effort. But get the sentiment, I’m not convinced he’s a Premier League quality player in the long run.

It's still early days but his first touch isn't quite there yet and that prevents him really getting at the full back.

I thought he was poor in the first half an hour. Expected him to get subbed early but he came back well. Put in a real shift and that took plenty of character.

He needs time to develop an end product. Whether he will get it here or if he ever will get it remains to be seen. What I would like to see now is for him to have more moves and make passes quicker. He currently has one move on the left wing which is to cut in, and on the right wing, it's knock it forward and run. Very predictable. He's still young and will continue to get better if he works hard and is given time.

I know it's not customary for our support to be patient with the younger players, but this is an occasion where patience is warranted IMO

This is what we are hoping but it doesn't always work that way. I have confidence in Gordons ability because we have seen improvement. It may not be at the required standard as of yet but on the other hand he is not making bad mistakes and sticking out like a sore thumb. I think he is slowly soaking up the experience and improving gradually but not as fast as some would like. He is one to keep on the back burner and fingers crossed he will step up and then make a significant difference to the team. I wouldn't say he has improved the team but on the other hand he hasn't weakened it but importantly he is gaining PL experience.
