If we honestly cannot improve an attack of Demari '£1.7m waster' Gray, Dwight 'I really have played in the Prem before honest' McNeil, Dominic 'perpetually injured' Calvert-Lewin, Dele 'retired at 22' Alli and Salomon 'one goal a year' Rondon with £50m in our pocket then I don't know what to say. Might as well just pack it up and go home because we have no business being a professional club if that's the case.

(Those may not be their actual real middle names. Took a guess).

I’m talking about really improving, not make do players. We only brought most of them you mention in the last twelve months.

It’s mostly my fault this because I despair at some of the players deemed to be potentially great signings here. That Dennis at Watford who’s just gone to Forest. He will have a decent game or two in a season and people will be saying oh we missed out there.

I can’t accept the dross position we are in and that’s my fault.

But we have been in the market for forward players, talking to clubs, finding out who is interested, finding out how much they will cost, all summer. There will be a list of options ready to go.

I know it’s hard to put much trust in the club but I think if we are entertaining offers for Gordon (and by setting a price, we are not discouraging offers) it’s with a very good idea of the players we will bring in, and if we accept an offer it will be because we think the players we can bring in with the extra money are much better options than Gordon + the players we could sign with our existing budget.

Wondered how long that would take. Can’t have been comfortable for you being supportive of and giving time to a manager who isn’t a portly Iberian kopite.

It’s definitely not a given that he’d want to go. He’d be a rotational player. I could very easily imagine this getting squashed as early as tomorrow for that reason, probably more likely to be from Lampard or the club to protect him if that were the case. We should be wary of reports that he’s agreed terms, etc at this point
 

Think it's a mistake all round if he goes. Even at 60m. He has such a high ceiling in terms of potential development but he needs games. He won't get games at Chelsea. We can obviously reinvest the money on a player or two who can deliver in the here and now, but down the track gordon could (and granted there's risk with could) develop into a top player. It also sends out the wrong message imo.
