Yes, for the most part the people who get paid millions to scout and recruit have an excellent knowledge of systems, patterns, stats etc., at least compared to the average fan. But, as you said, sometimes recruitment doesn’t work out.

I don’t know why you’d argue that the recruitment experts know what they’re doing so Gordon must be worth the money, then say that recruitment doesn’t always work out a few minutes later.

My point is more Gordon is clearly a very talented player, as otherwise sides like Chelsea and guys like Dan Ashworth wouldnt make big bids for him.

That's it.

Some people think hes terrible. I disagree. But I'm able to say its irrelevant what I think, the fact people in football think otherwise proves this wrong.

Not the ones who bought Kepa for 71.5million, no.

They’ve also recruited players like Drinkwater, Sarr, Zappacosta, Ziyech, Saul, Bakayoko, Kenedy, Morata, Barkley etc. and spent £80m on Havertz who, a few great goals aside just misses sitters and starts arguments.

Chelsea have some great players and are obviously miles ahead of us, but it’s a wild point to say that because they want Gordon for £40m he must be worth it, and world class for his age. He might be, but that’s not guaranteed because Chelsea say so.

I think we need to take into account inflation, and given these are a while ago i think its far crack.

Richarlison
Haaland
Raheem Sterling
Luke Shaw
Anthony Martial
Jason Sancho

Thats just off the top of my head

So of that list we have Sterling, Haaland, Sancho and Martial.

Haaland is older than Gordon. So we have 3 names. I'll await the other 7.

In the history of football, 3 names thus far.

There is always a fear when you sell a young player that they will suddenly reach that next level when they leave.

Remember Ross Barkley. Many thought that with 'improved' coaching and surrounded by better players, he'd kick on. Well he's still Ross f*%king Barkley. He never developed that decision making and football intelligence that he lacked.

Anthony Gordon lacks that decision making ability currently. No guarantee he'll get to the next level. I'd take the money.

Of course he’s very talented - he’s a regular premier league player at 21, for starters. Albeit in a dreadful side.

But the fact that Chelsea have bid a certain amount for him doesn’t mean he is or isn’t worth it. Chelsea, as with most clubs, have paid way over the odds for absolute duds in the past. I don’t think Gordon would be one of them, but you never know.

What the people who recruited (as I said) Barkley, Ziyech, Drinkwater, Kenedy, Morata etc. think doesn’t prove anything.
