Got a horrible image of this happening when we realise how ludicrous £45m would be to turn down.

I'm a firm believer that if the club has a valuation, they should stick to it. I don't see why that should change.

We valued Richarlison at £60m and one way or the other will get it.

If we value Gordon at £50m, then we should try and get £50m.

They will up the bid again, I think we are right not to blink
Stick to the valuation. We have no financial need to sell.

I do honestly think it's crazy from Chelsea, as decent as Gordon is and as much potential as he has.

I'd love him to stay btw, and be able to add a decentish striker and midfielder as I think that'd be enough to keep us safe. But if they do offer £50m, then we have to take it imo.

I think it all comes down to the player. It Gordon is set on staying here and fighting for the team then we should reject any bid from Chelsea. If he wants to go though then I’d be inclined to take a decent bid.

We have to have players here that want to be here or we’ll never improve the culture in the squad.

If you bid 45m in a negotiation and the other side ask for 50m, then it's very unlikely you walk away. That's only 10%, we aren't talking 50% difference here.

And if they do walk away then we keep the player. It's no big deal.

I feel we'll get £45m + add-ons to £50-55m, if a deal is done, and that a large proportion of that money will be in the initial downpayment (like £20m).

If Gordon really isn't wanting to sign a new deal then I think the club will accept it.

Like you say though if they don't hit the figure we want then we don't sell. We have targets we can get without selling him, but I can safely bet that the targets we'd be able to move for if we had that extra financial power would be a far sight better.

But we very much have a footballing reason to sell as the lad offers very little on the pitch and I very much doubt he will add that to his game at a Everton or anywhere else for that matter. The money can be used to get in two or more attacking players that are more prolific, which we are desperate for. It’s a dangerous game we’re playing imo turning down 45 million for the likes of Gordon. Chelsea could easily move on to other targets and then we’re lumbered with a player who’s had his head turned.

Will also be a 5 year contract. Any extra we squeeze out of them at this point won’t even make tiniest dent in their accounts when spread over 5 years.
