2022/23 Anthony Gordon

I mean it’s not really - for one thing it’s 300% MORE goals, not 400. (He’s scored 3 MORE goals, 3 is 300% of 1). Percentages are also a non-ideal way of representing differences between very small numbers, because they give the impression of huge differences, when in fact a change of just 1 goal can vastly alter the percentages.

And weren’t 2 of Gordon’s goals shots from other players that hit him and deflected in?

I have no particular dog in this fight, but using the figures you are using to imply that one of the players is MILES ahead of the other is disingenuous at best.

I would say the goals stats are an inexact way of showing Gordon is a level up on MGW.

I'm not saying MGW is bad, but when he was Gordon's age he was going on loan to the championship, while Gordon is going to Chelsea. They are not the same level, and neither Nketia. That was the origin of this discussion.

I would sell Gordon. And at the right price I would buy MGW. But I dont see the point in doing it at an equivalent price. That's all. It just feels the wrong risk/reward option for us.

Far from it, it's why Chelsea want to spend 45m on him mate.

But sd-1992 reckons he's rubbish so yeah.

This point gets lost on people, who say hes the worst winger in the league, or championship standard or that sort of thing.

Why have Chelsea bid 45m for him? Why did Dan Ashworth make a big bid for him?

Why does Pep like him? Or Conte at Spurs explored getting him in? Or Tuchel, or Ashworth. All these people are wrong, in the face of the evidence, and someone people think themselves correct. I know which people I'd trust when it comes to football.

What's also mad, is even that fairly sensible suggestion seems to cause ire. People would have you believe several elite pros in football know less than them.

…. I recall you posting similar about Dowell. I think the club should accept any bid north of £45m but if the player doesn’t want to move then he stays.

Its a terrific offer & good business if he‘s sold for that figure.

That's basically it for me.

I love Gordon, think hes very talented and have enjoyed watching him play. But that is a lot of money, and we could get others in.

People seem to be stuck in a binary that hes either awful and you sell, or hes brilliant and you keep. It can be both.

They all know how good he is mate...they're just big kids who want new signings in the way that kids want new toys.

That is the bottom line.

I think the general consensus is that “he’s alright”. I get that the binary opinions are the ones that stand out but if you look the vast majority appears to be centred around thinking he’s a decent player, could get better but the alleged bid is a lot more than he’s worth.

His value for us is measured more than in stats or a bottom line figure he's worth monetarily mate.

I'll go be an example, when Rooney left it in part allowed Moyes to build a good side - BUT that for me was the moment the knifes to a gunfight mentality started to be accepted by the club and by a large part of the supporters.

Us rejecting the Stones bids years ago helped us gain back a lot of the swagger at the time, then Moshiri arriving and pumping in shedloads of money helped that too.

Now after the past 3-4 seasons with Rafael and fat sam and Koeman we've had the stuffing knocked out of us again. Selling Gordon would be putting a lid on the small club coffin after us willingly climbing into it imo - much to Blue Bills delight as he fostered and encouraged that mentality all along.

Might sound overly dramatic to some, but that's my thoughts on it

I dont expect people who are desperate to sell Gordon to believe it. I'm not saying it's believable. Just putting one out there to stand alongside all the "I know the lads agent and he's bought a house for Gordon in London" stuff.

The reality is this though: Everton are past masters at throwing a young player under the bus and getting a sale as well as absolving themselves of ANY responsibility.

Anyone contesting that hasn't been paying attention.
To be honest, mate, I couldn't care less who the engineers of the deal are, if we manage to mug Chelsea for £50m for him. If AG wants the move and we get £50m, great. If he had nothing to do with it but the club are pushing him out, and we get £50m: great.

New contract has been signed.

He has a good season....he goes for even more next year.
Yeah I think we would be foolish to turn down 50m but I won’t be gutted if he stays. He’s improving rapidly and is a good lad. Always working hard for the badge. It’d be a gamble but if he has a really good season the interest will be there, as you say. I guess the question is would we actually get higher offers? To be honest 50m is probably approaching the ceiling unless he really takes off. Personally I’m expecting more marginal improvements year by year.

Honestly I think we'll struggle to attract offers of this much again. By next year, even if he has had a good year, Chelsea will no doubt have had to put the brakes on their wackadoo spending to some degree; we need to strike while Crazy Todd's iron is hot.

City won't have any use for him, nor would Liverpool by then. United, maybe? But who knows what financial turmoil will happen there if they keep failing to get CL footy? Newcastle seem to be the poorest billionaires on earth, so I am not sure who that leaves us with.

I heard he's bought these....

The lad's Cheslea daft.
Pretty smart, them, tbf

I don't get people who think his value might increase by next year, or 2024 based on having a "good season". How on earth is he going to look the part when he's playing in a team alongside National League standard Demarai Gray and no striker, and with no creativity in midfield to support his attacks? I am 100% convinced this is the highest offer he'll ever have in his career and it's a deal we simply have to make happen. I'll be utterly disgusted at the club, the position it is in, if they reject this offer. £50m, if reinvested properly, gets us three quality players.
