It's nothing to do with being "economically screwed". It's about valuations.

If the club value the player at £50m then they either meet it or they don't. Doesn't matter if it's £5m. For too long now we've been bullied in the transfer market.

I've said repeatedly down the years that I don't love trying to deflect from individuals by saying x would be better in a better team. So no I don't really have anything to say.

But that's a ridiculous position to take isn't it?
Of course playing in a better team gives you opportunities to get better stats. I mean it's glaringly obvious.

The argument is more, that Gordon wouldn't have got a game for that United team. That's the reality.
