That's what happen when an attacker ahead of him pulls their 'kin finger out and puts a shift in.
Did you see our number 9 today tho Dave?

Lots of energy in his game today, back to last season's level, best display of the season so far from him. I was surprised he kept his place today, shows how much more Lampard knows about football than I do.
The only other option is McNeil and I think he is better off the bench tbh or you end up switching Gray or Iwobi.

Much, much, better from him today.

He needs to maintain that level though. I dont mean scoring every week, but more keeping control of his aggression without the ball, and being more direct/simple with it.

I think Newcastle was one of his worst performances, and today was one of his best. Not just in outcomes, but in the process of how he approached it. No idea what has sparked that change, if Lanpard has had a word with him.

He kind of epitomised the entire team the last 2 games. We didnt do anything sensational today, but we were positive without being wreckess. When a chance came to play forward, to shoot, to cross etc we took it.

That's his game for me. Get in the channel, go at the fullback and look to deliver into the box. Without the ball, get into shape and if the opportunity comes to put a challenge in do so, but dont go "looking for it".

Yeah I’d agree with that. It’s quite weird that I’d say he’s only really had 3 good games this year and he’s scored in all of them. I’d love him to become more consistent but if he could somehow nor play well in the main but come up with 10 goals by capitalising when he dies play well I’d definitely take that!

I would have set up to feed him and to be sure about turning Zaha off. It turned out that he didn't need it, and that Coleman still can put Zaha in his pocket.

As with Onana and McNeil, let's keep in mind that Gordon is young. He will have poor outings. He's on pace to kick in enough to replace Rico's goal tally, which I will 100% take from a player who can still play for the U-21s.

The plan is obviously to have enough consistency at the back to give the young attackers the opportunity to develop comfortably, without the heavy pressure of the looming threat of relegation. If we pick up a few more points from the kinder run of fixtures before the break, that should work out.

I think today though, he played well irrespective of the goal. The goal is a great add on, hea alert and shows good movement to get himself into the right area.

But in general he was trying to do the right things. I actually think his delivery was poor overall, a couple of decent deliveries, but more that were overhit. However I'd always take someone trying to do the right things and not executing well, over someone who I have no idea what they are thinking.

We have a target man who wants crosses, and we need to supply him such.

Yeah sorry I didn’t put that across very well. I mean he just happens to have scored in all the games I’d say he played well in, not that he played well because he scored. Today was his best all round performance of the season, the goal just capped it off.

I think it was clear mate, so no worries on that.

And yes I agree. There have been flashes of some brilliant stuff in other games, but for consistency with and without the ball that was his best display. He didnt do anything outstanding, but was 7/10 in the aspects he needs to be.

In this league, you can do very well doing that. Theres a handful of exceptional players who can play outside of those guidelines (and I think Onana has potential to be one like that) but honestly most players should keep it simple.

He needs to be consistent now. Games like Newcastle away need to become a rare event.
