I think personally his head has been turned. He has a ego this season where last he didn’t. The hair colour dye, the goal celebrations, half arsed attempts to track his runner. Said in the summer we should of sold him. Even it was 30 mil, would of been all profit. And we could of found someone with that money who will replaces his goals and assists and look bothered. Right now I say he will have 6-7 goals at the end of season and a maybe 3-4 assists. That’s including the goals he already has now.

Probably because there never was any legitimate £50-60m offer made.

(If I had a dollar for everytime somebody quoted an unsubstantiated figure with regards to the rumoured Gordon transfer, I'd have...... loadsssss of dollars).
Yep, I'll be amazed if any offer had as much as 30m cash up front.

If they did, and we declined.... It's poor judgement.

I’d take that return. Potentially 8 goal involvements in a maximum of 23 games would be fine in that regard. The issue is general performances need to improve. And 4 assists in 23 games looks a long way away when you’ve got 0 in your last 29.

He is taken out of the team at times though? He’s started 36 league games of the 52 since the start of last season. And what exactly are we dependent on him for? He’s 21 not 17, there’s absolutely nothing out of the ordinary about what we’re asking of him.

I do get what that guy is saying a bit. There was a huge push around Gordon this summer. Some of it for perfectly good reasons, its good to be proud of a young player, but other bits of it a bit naive at best and cynical at worst.

Theres no doubt to me our board elevated Gordon, and made very public the size of bid that was being rejected to deflect from themselves and selling Richarlison. I also think it's their side leaking the contracts stuff. This has so many parallels to the same chairman with Ball, Jeffers and Rooney. Its unprofessional but it works.

Gordon/Lampard did also go along with aspects of it a bit though. Taking the number 10 shirt etc. It added a huge amount of pressure onto Gordon that was not really going to help. It has spiked expectations to a certain level, and when he falls short, theres a lot of anger.

That being said, both Gordon and Lampard have played a part in this (not a necessarily a majority part, but a part). And if he wants to go on and become a top player, you have to deal with that.

The best players dont look at the situation and say I want a break. They want to play to turn it around.

I just think that’s part of being a footballer isn’t it. None of that is anything like what he’d have to deal with if he was an England international playing for one of the top 6. It’s pressure of course, but pretty small fry in terms of being an elite footballer.

I’ve never met the lad and so can’t comment on his attitude, but it’s not hard to see why people are saying he has a bad one. Lots of little things added up make it an understandable concern I think.

Yeah his choice of hair colour was defo the turning point ???

FFS ! This thread has it all.

These phantom bids for players are a good way of imploding the player and the fanbase aren't they ?

Now every time he plays he has to be Messi or he is rubbish and we should have taken the phantom money.

He is probably on a similar level to McNeil if we are honest - has his moments but yet to find consistency in performance.

Bullpoop in footy sells, creates pages and pages. Myself imagine it's going peculiar midseason break and rumours will be like nothing before because of this silly world cup.

Its indicative of a player or individual believing all the hype around themselves being far better than they are(he may well get there) and then acting the big cheese, Im sure this has been said already though.

Too much too soon for these youngsters, they pretty much have it all from the off.

Unfortunately, he’s regressed massively for whatever reason.

We can’t afford to be accommodating injured or massively out of form strikers as we don’t have an array of options. Hopefully, this winter break gives him a chance to find whatever it is that makes him play to a better standard more regularly. He’s looking like he could be another Davies at the minute, which would be a huge shame for us.
