I do get what that guy is saying a bit. There was a huge push around Gordon this summer. Some of it for perfectly good reasons, its good to be proud of a young player, but other bits of it a bit naive at best and cynical at worst.
Theres no doubt to me our board elevated Gordon, and made very public the size of bid that was being rejected to deflect from themselves and selling Richarlison. I also think it's their side leaking the contracts stuff. This has so many parallels to the same chairman with Ball, Jeffers and Rooney. Its unprofessional but it works.
Gordon/Lampard did also go along with aspects of it a bit though. Taking the number 10 shirt etc. It added a huge amount of pressure onto Gordon that was not really going to help. It has spiked expectations to a certain level, and when he falls short, theres a lot of anger.
That being said, both Gordon and Lampard have played a part in this (not a necessarily a majority part, but a part). And if he wants to go on and become a top player, you have to deal with that.
The best players dont look at the situation and say I want a break. They want to play to turn it around.
