2022/23 Anthony Gordon

21 year old and current top scorer learning his trade and not putting in perfect performances and now suddenly the worm is turning on him.

Wingers are notoriously form dependent. Is he Messi or Ronaldo? No. Is he a promising talent who if he scored on boxing day would have everyone buzzing for him. Yes.

People are stuck over a bid that we don't even know existed. So what if we rejected it even if it did, why shouldn't we try to keep our promising young talents if we can?

I hope he scores a winner vs City. UTFT!

I thought he'd come good after an enthusiastic raw initial start. Then the hype started..local lad articles.. bit cocky but fairly acceptable in a young starlet. The 'trying too hard' smokescreen disappeared and he plateaued... then threw his weight about unnecessarily with the same vigour as the peroxide. What's left if he doesn't get his head down at FF, stop the dance moves and learn to control the ball and beat the goalie instead of passing it to him. Not a lot.
The stick youth players get ala Osman ......

He isn't ready to be starting week in week out imo

Joint with Gray on a momentous 3 goals.

Amazing.

Actually Joe, I always supported Anthony on here... especially when he was new, trying too hard to impress and some were I thought unfairly attacking him. What I mean now is he needs to get down to seriously mproving his own game and perfecting his own skills both for his own sake, and moreover, this team who seem short of them all round at the moment.

Honestly you could be right. A lot of pressure is on the young man
This is my take on it. As I've previously said, he has been built up by so many - the club, the fan base, the press et al. - when in reality he needed nurturing.

There's those who think he's the bees knees, whereas others are writing him off. The reality is probably he's a young talent who may come good.

He can offer something right now, but in reality he probably shouldn't be starting each and every game - it'll depend on the opponent; he could be an impact sub.

Yet, it may be very difficult to scale him back now he's been given the no 10. short, built up to be the next talent and (arguably) believe his own status.

Last season has probably not helped him in the long-term, and with hindsight the money Chelsea offered could have been used for the here and now.
