Foden is a generational talent. Gordon approximately 7 planets away from that.An average, inconsistent lower league team winger. Not Saka or Foden level.
Like Barkley. We should have gotten £35m if we were decisive enough to sell him earlier.Look I just don't understand how anyone at this club no matter if they've been there 6 months or 6 years can look at our bench yesterday and see Tom Davies, hailed as a future Everton captain, great player etc. who was rewarded early on in his Everton career based on nothing but potential in a poor side who will now leave Everton after his contract expires at the end of the season and as a 25 year old will lucky to get into a Championship side. They see this and then think to themselves "oh well let's start that exact same situation again with Gordon". It's baffling.
Very clear to literally everyone that's watched him regularly that he doesn't have a future at the top of football yet this club is willing to bend over backwards in some sort of appeasement to fans, despite most of us who'd have been happy to see him go in the Summer for that extortionate price. The maddest thing is we're likely putting Gordon and Iwobi's contracts over Pickford's despite Pickford being by far the best of the 3, simply because the dopes that run this club think they know what the fans want.
Gordon getting this contract will cement him not being sold in the Summer as potentially the worst financial decision this club has ever made, which takes some doing. Taking Gordon off the market now with this new contract will mean we'll look back at him in 3-4 years time when he's playing at Coventry or something and wonder what we could've done if we had cashed in.
It's happened to almost everyone, we're absolutely petrified of a player turning out good and us missing out. Barkley is one of the rare players that came through that was a top level player, we've so many others like Dowell, Garbutt, Baningime, McAleny, Pennington and so many others including now like Broadhead and Davies, all of these are lads from the academy that massively overstayed their welcome because the people at the club were desperate to keep hold of them just in case they came good, which anyone who's watched them could see it wouldn't happen.Like Barkley. I think you are spot on mate. It's happened to almost everyone, we're absolutely petrified of a player turning out good and us missing out. The absolute worst thing about it is there's been so many other great young players that we could probably use right now but we were happy to get rid of simply because they didn't come through the academy, looking at Vlasic, Kean, Lookman and Deulofeu, as well as many others they were all young players we were happy to get rid of, I'm not saying that we didn't make good deals out of some of them but those 4 I mentioned by name are all doing very well in Italy at the moment and would walk into our current side easily, why wouldn't we demand silly money for the likes of Kean who scored better than 1 in 2 for PSG when we loaned him and was generally seen as one of the top prospects in the world, we were happy to send him back to Juve for basically what we paid, yet with Gordon who scored 2 goals last season that he knew about last season we reportedly turned down record sales offers.
Pure insanity clouded by some "super bloo" mentality. I'm 99% certain that it has Kenwright's fingers all over it, he tries to keep the "family" together and keep all the academy players despite the fact that there are players being let go with 10x the ability of them for a fraction of the prices.
