2022/23 Anthony Gordon

He's been absolutely abysmal now for at least 10 consecutive games. Even the two or three games he's scored in this season he hasn't been particularly impressive.

But this is what happens when:

1. You put an unproven youngster on a pedestal by giving him the number 10 shirt, and calling him "Starboy" across social media

2. Seemingly being unable to drop him for more than half a game regardless of form or attitude because the alternatives are just as bad

Wouldn't get a game in any other team in the league. Should be out on loan at a League One side, yet instead we're trying to "secure" him by offering him an inflated contract.

We deserve absolutely everything that happens to us as a club.

I don't know what the exact figure ended up being but to not find a way to get the deal done in the summer was complete malpractice. Maybe Gordon still finds a way to be a high level winger but every passing week with little progress, not to mention little actual coaching and management, makes that possibility more and more remote. And you can spend that money on multiple players who will have a similar level of potential, some of whom may have even been better now. A complete disaster.

That's not a personal attack on Gordon either. It isn't his job to properly assess what he is and make decisions based on it, nor has he chosen to be managed incompetently.
I don’t condone fans getting on players backs, but you can understand why people are frustrated.

Gordon (and the others) has the honour of playing for the club that means so much to the fans, and he has an opportunity that most of us could only dream of, but doesn’t seem bothered.

The thing that strikes me is that getting beat doesn’t seem to hurt any of them as much as it does the fans.

Its a little pet hate of mine. The club do it with iwobi aswell. Score a goal or make a pass thats an assist and they get the flags and fanfares out.
I get it that they need to do stuff like this to an extent but its so over the top. You're bigging these players up so much for not doing much really. Not just individuals, the team can go on a huge unbeaten run of 2 games and they're doing the conga down Goodison road.

Its been noted before but there is an element of truth with the small time mentality within this club. Go over the top by all means. But do it on a 15 game unbeaten run or something.
Stop lording mediocrity.

Gross mis management of the highest level not accepting the £30m up front offer in the Summer. I just don’t get him at all. Another home grown talent who at the very best is so very average. He has the brass neck to ask for 100k aveeek . Look at some of the young Arsenal players yesterday ..You would consider giving them a good wedge .. but him.

In reality we have 2/3 good players, we have 5/6 average players and the rest are poor players. The 8/9 players who play on the first eleven aren’t good enough to carry the 2/3 duds we put out every week. I watched the game yesterday and I couldn’t believe the chances Wolves gave us, I couldn’t believe we could miss all those chances. Seeing Maupay given a clear run at goal only to be knocked off the ball so easily, seeing the shot he had straight at their keeper is all the evidence anyone needs to say the lad isn’t Premier League standard. The mis-control from Gordon on the edge of the box from a left wing cross and his miss when only the goalkeeper to beat was a sickener. Put those together with McNeill/Gray, the pair were nonexistent and you see why we are heading into the bottom three. The news coming out of the club is all about togetherness and a joint approach, in my playing days as a defender I would have had all four of those forwards by the throat and explained a few home truths. We know Gordon can play, we know Gray can play once every 9 or 10 games and we know McNeill and Maupay can’t play at this level. The Board/Owner need to get the funds for two forwards who are capable of going straight into the first team and scoring some goals, then they need to resign en mass as they have overseen the destruction of a once great football club, if they remain in place I fear, not only for our Premiership future, but for our long term survival. It is long past the time were fans are booing players who do not have the capability to play at Premiership level or a management team who may not have the ability to manage at this level and start putting the blame where it belongs and that is with those who put this sorry mess together.

Club can’t win regarding this lad.

We sell him to Chelsea last summer we would’ve been saying: “we have no ambition, selling all our best players again”.

We keep him: “he’s crap that Gordon”.

He’s one of the few players I’m not worried about - will turn for him as he’s quality.

No mate, a small minority of fans would have been saying that - the rest would have been overjoyed if the money was anything around the £30-40m mark.

I seem to remember the consensus was that if the offer was above 40 odd than it would be mad to turn it down. Whether an offer that was structured in a way that suited the club came in, we don't know, but the ambitious thing to do would have been to sell him and reinvest it in players who are ready to contribute now.

What have you seen to suggest this?

A handful of deflected goals or rebound tap ins, a decent goal v Leeds and no assists?

Just seen a stat saying mcneils assist was the first this season between him, Gordon and Gray. IN 16 GAMES

If we sold him I'm pretty sure we would've put the deals for either Kudus or Mudryk over the line.
