It’s a very weird situation. If he really is/was coveted by 2 or 3 very good sides that have plenty of resources, then if he just played close to the level they clearly think he can, he could save us not only a £20mill risky punt, but save our season and the medium term future of the club.
Basically I’m going to put all the pressure on him to save the club rather than hoping someone joins out of greed or pity.

I just don’t get the Gordon hype at all. Everton are desperately trying to upgrade on Gordon because he’s been so poor, so how he’s supposed to be attracting the top 6 is beyond me. It reminds me a bit of the Rodwell hype, but at least Rodwell had a couple of senior England caps and a few good appearances to his name.

Howe got a tune out of Almiron. Perhaps he can do the same out of Gordon. I have not written Gordon off becoming a decent player. It was just not right for us to keep him during the summer given our needs for players that can immediately Contribute

Almiron had a work rate this boy doesn't. Gordon came in. Did relatively well. Fell over too much. Got castigated for it. Rightly. Now he's lost without his one trick pony. Failing to take the money in the Summer was foolish and for that we have to look at Lampard. His decision making is inept. And that's being kind.

Stamina can be built. He is still young. He has a much better first touch than Almiron. There has been historic interest from Newcastle, Spurs and Chelsea as well as praise from Pep. There clearly must be something there

I mean...look at Gnonto for Leeds. 19. Cost about £4mill...far more talented than Gordon.
The list of wide attacking players the same age or younger better than him is pretty extensive even in the prem.
Anyway...£40mill (January inflation) and he's hours Newcastle

Same. I don’t think he’s shown anything at all that suggests he can be a top player / get England caps etc. He might push on under the right coach maybe but it’s a gamble.
If it was actually 40 million for anyone who’s been heavily involved in the most toothless Everton attack I’ve seen in my 34 years it’s a yes
If we can’t take most of that money (maybe not all to help with ffp) and invest in a forward who will contribute more than Gordon did with goals and assists then we deserve relegation
