Probably but it was known that the club was trying to force him out. I was doing my apprenticeship with a former professional footballer, and he knew someone in the clubs youth set up and he was saying he’s been forced out.
Yeah can definitely believe that. Think Rooney is conveniently leaving out the bit about him wanting out at the time aswell. Can’t blame him for that like but he’s put it down in print. Yet another reason why players shouldn’t write books so young.

You said he was happy; he wasn’t because he found out that Bill Kenwright had agreed to sell him to Chelsea and they were going to loan him out to Boro

From the point he then wanted to leave the club under his terms and not Kenwrights
He was happy at Everton and going no where
Stretford took over and that was the end

“Before Euro 2004, I knew that I was getting touted to other teams - because Everton needed the money. Certain individuals were going into other clubs saying ‘would you take Wayne Rooney for £30m?’

“I was heartbroken, I loved the club and wanted to play for Everton.

“To find that out, I was devastated. I would have left at some point, of course I would’ve, to try and better myself and go and win trophies. But I was devastated.

“I went to Barbados after Euro 2004, I’d broken my foot obviously. I came back to Bellefield and was ready to go out and start running, and step up my training from a broken foot. I remember getting told you can’t do that because if your foot breaks down we won’t be able to sell you.”

Never said he's great or that we shouldn't sell him. Just that he still has potential that will never be tapped here BECAUSE the organization is so poorly ran. In an ideal world he has another year on loan last year and is just now breaking into this squad. proper development
It’s really difficult to argue that the club hasn’t developed him well when we’re supposedly selling him for £40m to be honest. When we loan players out people moaning that they aren’t given a chance here, when we give players a chance here people moan that they weren’t loaned out, you couldn’t make it up.

In an ideal world yes we’d be top of the league with great players in his position, but in the real world he’s a competent PL player and we’re 19th in the league, so he’s quite rightly been a member of our first team squad.

Listen Gordon was always going to go as soon as the fans chased him, he started to believe his own publicity in the past year, Starboy nickname and the dress sense all changed as soon as he got into the team.

He's like every other young lad his age with money, a bloody entitled idiot. If he wants to leave his boyhood club then it's a no brainer for me, get rid immediately. And never let him come back
I just don't see why there has to be vitriol.

He's a talented player but right now Everton need money. It can be amicable.

I think under the right conditions, with the right team, and the right coaching then he'll become a very good player. Clearly Everton is not a place for a young player to grow and flourish at present. It'll be interesting to see how he progresses over the next few years if he does move. It will certainly be sink or swim time.

COYB!

John.
