2022/23 Anthony Gordon

Mate you can find a stat for anything. To be honest I don’t go for mad stats like big chances created - like what’s the variables in application, things like that were invented by Sky to fill the gaps between football.

Like below you can use stats to prove any point:

Doesn’t matter anymore it seems.
I'm not using 'big chances' but simply chances. He is our no.10 and in 16 league games has created 8 goalscoring opportunities for team-mates.

It's good that he shoots a lot, but given he's scored three goals from those shots (two of them excellent finishes, one of them a tap in into an empty net) it's hardly something to boast about either. Can we think of one effort he's had where he's really tested the GK? He literally missed a 1v1 the other week in the Wolves game where he had half the goal to aim at.

I don't dislike him as a player. I think he has a ton of potential. But I don't think he's anywhere close to being ready right now and if he wants out (which is a shame) and a club is coming with big money, we have to take it.

Like I said, I don't think Anthony Gordon keeps us in the league, but the money we get from a £35m sale could well do.

Agree to disagree but I think there's a mountain of evidence right now that Gordon is no superstar, and the club should never have tried to make him one just yet.

He's got talent and the current climate isn't good for his progression. It's a shame he didn't come along a few years earlier. If we get north of £40m for him then that's good business.
This is it.
We have to sell him, but the fact that we are doing so - and that he's desperate to get away - is another failure of the board's making.
Yes he's not amazing, but he's also 21 years old. I have no doubt if he was featuring regularly for us in a half-functioning team we'd be able to easily milk a champion's league team out of £60m+ to take on the job of realising his potential. Instead we're now scrambling to sell for 40m because there will be no further opportunities to raise his price.
That's not to suggest he's been good, or that his attitude is right, but he's 21 years old and has only played football in a desperate, toxic, furious environment with a rotating cast of terrible managers and teammates. How would he benefit from sticking around at Everton? The last player who did so was Tom Davies - and look at how that affected his development.
At worst, he'll be sent out on loan after a season - and maybe a few years down the line pop up as an Ademola Lookman type. At best, he's playing in a winning team and away from this circus.
From Everton's side, they just need to sell him and replace with a high productivity attacking player to let us get the few wins that relieves the tension and desperation and helps us stay up.

Was liking tweets in the summer off accounts that were saying he doesn’t deserve the stick he’s getting. Let’s not pretend last week was a one off lol lol lol

That's him being a biff because the levels of animosity to him were muted as he'd just won all out player of the year awards. No one had much of a bad word to say about him.

However, the Chelsea and Spurs interest turned his head and the club put a valuation on him that they didn't meet.

Now things have gone south, he hasn't performed, fans have got on his back, he's not threw in the towel and wants off.

If he can't hack our fans...just wait until the geordies get hold of him when they find out he's a ginger Ryan Fraser.

Sounds like Chelsea and Newcastle are losing interest. Dont want to get into a bidding war and we seem reluctant to negotiate below 60 mil. Not sure if we should trust the sources quoted, but reports are here

Personally I think Gordon has potential to be great but I dont think we have the luxury right now to build for the future. We need to build for now. 60 mil is far too high an asking price and we don't have the time to mess about with interested clubs. 30-40, get it done today and look to strengthen our front line.

It can never be amicable when your grow up to be a toffee, play for a couple of years and want to leave at the most crucial time this club has probably ever faced. It isn't on Rooney levels but still man this is horrible way to conduct himself.
How do you even know how he’s conducting himself? It’s all hearsay, and media [Poor language removed] to kick our club and our players when we’re down. I agree with a lot of comments on here, that he’s not good enough, but he’s still a kid. There is no need for all the vitriol!

I agree with everything you said about Gordon here. It’s spot on. But where is the queue of cheap, (has to be cheap, cos we can’t afford anyone high class), high productivity attacking players lining up, & longing to join Everton?

What a kin rat! Local lad done good, playing for his supposed lifelong football team, living the dream paid thousands a week... and he just downs tools and decides to go AWOL.

Hit him with the largest possible fine and get that deal with Newcastle Brown done by this evening.
