Antolin Alcaraz

Looks good, very good, with ball at feet. Has however played against 2 sides who have showed no attacking intent and is likely to face 3 more in a row starting with QPR on Saturday.

His lack of pace is noticeable compared to the 2 regulars, but looks solid enough,

Your new year's resolution is to cheer up.

Good Centre halves don't need pace. Quick centre halves frequently make up for their lack of ability with their pace. I've been very impressed with Alcaraz so far, his positional sense is excellent. He will do Stones the world of good, with his constant talking and experience

What's this about having a player named after an infamous prison? Some of the worst criminals in the world, stranded on a piece of rock in the middle of San Francisco Bay? Is that the kind of image we want for our football squad? I think not!

Solid again today. Him & Stones make very able deputies, couldn't tell it wasn't our first choice centre half pairing. Really do have excellent options in defence.

After a suspect ball from Barkley in the 92nd minute, Birdman tidied up and delivered a beautiful pass to Osman who then ran into the box and got the penalty. That pass ranks as an assist to me...inch perfect.

Other random thoughts post 1 Jan matches: do not give Suarez a free kick within 25 metres of your goal...he'll score. Chelsea are big time back in terms of quality play and the title is between them and City. United are bang average. They should come 7th. We need fresh infusion of talent to continue to compete with Liverpool and Spurs for 4th

Reminds me very much of Jags tbh, but better on the ball and maybe a little bit slower, can see why Bobby got him in now though, always rated him for wigan - and was huge for them having him injured last year

Interesting thought actually, our cb's started to be looking more comfortable on the ball a few weeks ago after struggling to adpat initially, wonder how much had to do with training with alcarez once he returned from his injury?

Of the 4 cb's the one i'm most worried about adapting to the others is if Distin played with stones, as think stones benefits from having a better positional player next to him at this stage - jags or alcarez
