Dont see why. Bigger club, he's from here, chance to play for one of the worlds most decorated managers. Will get games as next years schedule will be hectic
He'll forever be cover until Digne is sold, He might play the odd game but we sold him cause he wants to play and I doubt he'll come here again just to do the same again, He'll have a much bigger chance of more game time at Sheffield/Fulham than us.

Fair enough, so behind Baines and Digne. If he was any good surely we should have backed him at the time and released an aging Baines?

According to an interview, he was told that we didn’t want to have Jags and Baines leave at the same time because we wanted to retain some experience, so with Jags already off Baines had to stay, which in turn limited his chances and he decided to move on

With Baines gone a slot has opened up again and he’s played regularly. He’s also been linked to AC Milan in the meantime

From how I read his interview, he could deal with being on the bench as the back up, but third in line wasn’t enough for him, so he moved

So he wasn't good enough to challenge a 64 year old Leighton Baines for a spot on the bench a season ago but now he's worth bringing in after playing for a side relegated from the Championship (albeit unfairly).

What am I missing here?

Is the price right? Is he improving the squad suitably for the outlay? Will he help us out of the doldrums in the short to medium term? If Digne is injured could he fill that position to the required level (Europa qualification at least)? If yes, welcome back.

If it suits him money and opportunity wise then he has a compelling argument to come back.

Having said all that, is there any truth to it?

We all know that could come in the next year or two. Then he could possibly be first choice.
