Antonee Robinson

I think we will just sign someone on loan like Sidibe last year, Brands brought in a young player who they think could be ready next year as a back up

Rapid, all action, positive, dynamic based on the videos on youtube.

Nkounkou will be 20 in november. Id hope hed be quickly introduced to the 1st team squad.

Robinson consciously uses his exceptional pace to counter his, as yet, undeveloped positioning. Couldn't be doing that in the top division.

So he wasn't good enough to challenge a 64 year old Leighton Baines for a spot on the bench a season ago but now he's worth bringing in after playing for a side relegated from the Championship (albeit unfairly).

What am I missing here?

He's a year older, a years more experience of competitive Championship football, and with no Baines around, would be competing directly with Digne. Baines mightve been 34, but he was still involved in a number of games, and there weren't many games that he wasn't at least on the bench. Aside from the starts he got, he was also introduced in addition to Digne on a few occasions, and as has been explained elsewhere, the decision to keep Baines on ahead of him was more of a training ground/experience issue, and we obviously didn't want to get in the way of Robinson playing football.

I say bring him in for a low fee, have him training with Digne and under Ancelotti and if he makes progress, you can look to utilise him and Nkounkou and maybe look to cash in on Digne down the line. It's obviously something they have considered given the number of left backs we are being linked with, and the apparent value of Digne, he represents an opportunity to reinvest in the side.

As good as Digne has been when at his best, I don't think he has been so good that he has become irreplaceable, and certainly not if we can double our money. While navigating the ridiculous restrictions of FFP, its a tactic we are going to have to try and make the most of unfortunately, no matter how wealthy we appear to be on paper.

To me, watching this, he looks exactly the sort of player we need. He is fast, direct, good feet, likes the ball on the floor, can carry the ball, and looks confident too. All the natural qualities he had when coming through. But he seems to have improved a bit in his awareness too, which is the sort of thing that comes through experience and good coaching.

Pair him with a hard working left Midfield player who will cover him and find him on the overlap, and you have the makings of a really good left sided partnership. Him and Gordon for example, could be an effective left hand side for years to come if given the opportunity.

I would rather we just give Connolly a go if we are going to use someone that we didn't deem good enough. Robinson did OK at Wigan but I'm not convinced he's the answer and if we are looking fir a stop gap Connolly has another year on his contract and will cost us nothing. He also has the added bonus he can play a number of positions.

He is a League 1 player and with one year left in his contract. Better get rid of him now.

Just use Delph as backup left back.

That's not a bad call but we might need Delph in midfield at this rate. My preference is to use none of these options and for us either to get in an experienced left back on a 1/2 year contract until Nkounkou is ready or to buy someone who will out and out compete with Digne but we have other priorities at the moment and not sure we have the money to cover them all.

It wouldnt make sense to me to buy/loan a left back.

Weve got Gibson and Branthwaite who may be able to play there (like lescott) and also Nkounkou. All of those players would benefit from minutes on the pitch...im sure we would have other options as well.

I dont see backup LB as a big issue compared to RB where neither Coleman or Kenny are going to tear things up.

For me the only reason to sign Robinson would be to have him as backup for 6 months then sell for a profit... but whats the point really...

Didn't make the bench, never played, got sold to the Championship, team got relegated(albit harshly) into League 1 and we want him back, what could possibly go wrong.

Aren't we always saying we hold onto these kids too long, now we want to buy one back who couldn't get a game, baffling.

Digne was coming off a stellar season and Baines was a club legend. Not much chance for a young lad there. We let him leave so he could get 1st team football which is why I cant see him coming back now as he still wont start. That being said hes gathering a bit of interest from other 1st division clubs and has some potential. That being said he's more likely to get a game elsewhere then here

I'm of the belief though that if you are good enough, you'll get in the team. The fact Baines who is in his final years kept him at bay, as good as baines is doesn't scream that the lad can force his way into the first team now. I suspect it's a moot point anyway, I've read he doesn't want to come back to sit on the bench.
