Antonee Robinson

I don't know enough about the lad to give anopinion either way on that but buying Robinson back seems counter productive to me.

As opposed to what? Jamaal lewis for £20mill, another LB for £10-£15mill to play backup to Digne? Matt Cash, another Championship fullback is being touted with a £18mill move, these are the prices floating around.

If we were going to pay £8-10mill then I'd be inclined to agree with you but its apparently £1.5mill, which could be even less if Wigan owe us money. Branthwaite, a League 2 player with about 10 appearances cost us £1mill. Its pittance for a ready made backup

Not a chance is he coming back.

“So I want good enough when you were playing Cuco Martina in my position but now I’ve made a career for myself in spite of the disastrous loans you sent me on I suddenly am? No thanks.”

where did that come from, as opposed to signing a player we sold as not good enough to break into the team, calm down sugar bun

He wasn't sold because he was not "good enough". He was sold because he wasn't as good as Digne or Baines who we had a lot of wages invested in anyway. He wasn't supposed to be good enough to get into the team at that point in his career.

This happens loads of times in football. If we were to get him back I don''t think it would be a bad move or anything. At the very worst you get him back, play him in a couple of games and then move him on for 3 times what we paid for him, that's worst case scenario.

Has he improved since leaving or has he found his level? I never rated him when I watched him in the pre-season games.

He was sold because he wasn't as good as what we had, one year later after a season with Wigan and he's become good enough to challenge Digne, if not then he shouldn't be anywhere near our target list. Otherwise it's pointless. If we don't start getting competition for places then these players will continue to under perform.

Banging head against brick wall comes to mind. Top class LB but people want us to spend £££ to bring in a backup. If we are spending any decent money on a fullback it should be a RB anyway.

Getting him in allows any money we would have to spend being put towards other more pressing areas.

It's this kind of apathy that we are dealing with. Digne needs competition, all of them need to know they aren't guaranteed places.

Your missing the point though. We have supposedly a future LB but unless he shows something special in training, he cant be backup.

So what do you do? Spend a chunk on a different player, like I said above, Jamaal Lewis for instance. Or do you loan a player? That still involves a fee and wages. Or do you get an experienced Championship player in who is similar to Baines and Digne in that hes good going forward (has more pace though), he knows the club, is only backup and if we did want to sell after a year would make a £5-6mill profit.

Yes, he was a kid who needed and wanted game time. There are not many better than Digne around, an untried kid is not taking his position if a seasoned international couldn't do it.

Competition has got nothing to do with under performance. Digne had strong competition the past few seasons in Baines. Players play crap because they are crap generally.

Robinson has a ton of potential, what you are suggesting would cost us about 20M for a player who wont even be playing. That would be utter madness.

There is a different manager in charge now too.
